Once common around here there are not many windmill water pumps left and, like this one, almost all have been abandoned. Surprisingly it still spins! Conversion done in Silver Efex using a modified vintage preset. Tony, great subject. I don't know of any windmills around here, but there's one up in Vermont that I tried to photograph for years, while traveling to visit my son. Sadly, it's on private property and not close enough to the road to get a good shot (LIKE THIS ONE). I love the processing you did--it's perfect for the photo and really adds to the vintage feel of the windmill. The foreground with the grasses is great, as is the tree on the left, reaching to touch the spinning blades. All in all, this is superb!

Here is an abandoned forestry rangers shack. I expect in the past they stayed here to look out for wild fires and doing general maintenance in the forest. Best viewed full size. Kind regards Chris

Great find, Chris! There's definitely a story being told in that shack...actually many. Love that at first glance it looks like a normal abode...but then, I started noticing things that have been neglected and deteriorated. Love this!

Not thrilled with this but being I took it today I'm posting it. Processed in SE3....added raw linen texture in an attempt to hide unwanted details.

Helen, what a great find! I really do like your processing, regardless of how you feel about it. Lol. It's amazing what condition people leave their lovely homes when moving on. Excellent submission!

I'd like to share another 'abandoned' image. This is one of my favorite shots from the abandoned Pennhurst School and Asylum in Pennsylvania. I've been there a number of times--there's always something new to discover (Annie shows up in different places every time I go there, but I shot her where she appeared--I don't move her!). Great place to photograph, if you can handle the creepy vibes of the place! "Lonely Annie"

Thanks for posting Helen. It inspired me to do something as I as looking for a 30-minute project. So looked for some "old" file names using Everything software. What else is there to do besides finish cleaning my office? ... that I started in November!! After all, it is the coldest February 24th on record. (-32.2°C) Brrrr. I actually have a walking date at 2 PM. Crazy. Will be a short walk!! A 10-photo grid "verto-pano" taken last September 17 at the south end of the Porcupine Hills. I've posted the color version before.

Helen, those are really great examples of abandonment! All three look just right in B/W!
Clive, really wonderful abandoned barn...or is it? Maybe it's just the fields that are abandoned. LOL Great b/w image regardless!!!

One more I found looking through my archives - abandoned machinery found in an old oil field so it was probably part of a steam powered rig that operated a number of wells back in the days before colour photography so B&W is very appropriate!

Another one from me as well. Saw this old house on the road between Kiahwah and Charleston SC in 2014. Took tons of pictures and still have some I've never processed.

Tony, because of he subject matter, that image really does look like it was taken 'back in the day'! The Foreground is a bit busy with all the grasses trying to hide the machinery, but the cogged wheels rise out of the confusion nicely and make for a strong image! I really like this one!
Helen, I can see why you stopped and took so many photos of this great house! I'm sure you'll get really creative on some of them, but for me, this black & white really nails the feel of the place!

Remember your first car? It was either so ratty you couldn't wait to get rid of it or it was so cool you just never wanted to see it go. Who knows which this old Camaro was. Camaro are really cool cars – especially for young guys. But just like all other cars, they do get ratty. So is this one a cool Camaro that has just been held onto way too long? Or is this a ratty one that just never made its final trip?

It's very personal to each of us...I know I loved my '64.5 mustang (my first car) but the transmission blew out and my father insisted on it being rebuilt (instead of being replaced). I never felt safe in it after that. So I felt both ways about that car--but wish I had it now!!!
