Your sketch effect works really well with the lantern, Lillias. Especially like all of the texture in the background and the uneven edges that your masking produced.

Used an image from my files. Added a night sky from StockSolo. Used a soft brush on a separate layer blurred and at a reduced opacity to try to get a glow from the lanterns. After editing in Photoshop took it into NIK CE 6 and used a low key filter to add to the nighttime look.  |

Nice one, Lillias ! Glad to see that they have found some books. Nice job with the glow from the lantern. As this seems to be something to address with the lantern can you tell us a little about how you achieved your glow? |

Nice job with the glow from the lantern. As this seems to be something to address with the lantern can you tell us a little about how you achieved your glow? I created a new layer above the extracted lantern layer and with a soft brush at 100% opacity and using an orange colour I brushed over the glass part of the lantern. The magic happens when you then change the blend mode of that layer to Colour Dodge. I added a layer mask to that colour layer and with a very small hard brush and black as the colour I brushed over the wires on the glass of the lantern to bring them back more into view. I then added another layer on top and using the same orange colour and a soft brush I brushed a kind of round/oval shape and changed the blend mode to Colour. Then using transform I manoeuvred the size and shape into what I thought was the best position to create the extended glow from the lamp across the attic. I hope this helps. |

Graveyard Shift-Ready My image. Soft lights by pexels/tolga ahmetler. I'm new to doing light reflections so I made two versions. I sort of prefer the non-reflective one because it's less cluttered looking. Which do you like (if either one  ) ? Suggestions?   |
