Somewhat related to last months Abstract Challenge I picked Patterns for this months B&W Challenge Once you start looking, patterns are everywhere and just require "a keen eye for symmetry, repetition, and texture" to quote from Pattern in Photography which gives some good examples and is worth a quick read. So for this month the challenge is to look for patterns that work well in black & white . They can be found in nature, architecture, around the home and often in places you might never have thought to take a photograph. So look around and show us what you see! Here are some examples from a look through my archives. The table top of an outdoor table: Cracked asphalt paving: Looking forward to seeing the black and white patterns you find. Tony

Great topic and accompanying article, Tony. Looking through the archives these two caught my eye. Should be a fun challenge.

Pattern created on sidewalk by sun shining through tree leaves during partial solar eclipse in 2017. The small openings among the leaves act like a pinhole camera. Note the shape of the sun eclipsed by he moon. i.ibb.co/1MsK8sF/Partial-Solar-Eclipse.jpg

A very timely example - I'm in a location where next Monday's eclipse is going to be over 99% so will hopefully get to see it although the weather forecast isn't currently ideal! Tony.

I'm in a location where a total eclipse is predicted, and the predicted forecast is cloudy with rain. I predict the forecast is wrong. I'll have my camera ready!

Two from yesterday......
The second was made from this photo. After converting to B/W and cropping to fill the frame; I played with layers and blend modes to create the above pattern. Not sure if photo manipulation is acceptable for this theme.

Well done Clive. I particularly like the second picture. It reminds me of a sheet of patterned glass. Kind regards Chris Wave patterns in fall 2010

Here are some older eclipse pictures I found with crescent shaped patterns shining through the leaves on a patterned floor. Kind regards Chris
