Hi For me, I have not been updating/purchasing PSE every year. Although I used PSE since version 1, my first purchases were PSE 2, 3, and 4. Then, as some may remember, for a few years, Adobe did not offer Mac versions (starting with version 5). That is when I discovered that I could live without a new yearly version. So, since I have PSE 2024, I am good for a while. But, I have questions, does this mean that PSE will only be updated every three years. Or, will PSE 2025 have updates during the 3 year period. If so, will there be a charge? Also, I wonder if AI has played in this change because Adobe might be looking at the future of photo editing. How will editing software be used or needed in the future? Cameras in phones use AI to enhance images and most phone users do not need to download their images to editing software. Since Photoshop went to a subscription, PSE has not received many new editing tools. Many of the new items are one-click items ... click here and change the sky ... click here and remove this item, etc. Stay tuned.

Pete, Here is what I have learnt so far . . . - Adobe will continue to release new versions of Elements every year. - The upgrade discount will still be offered to users. - Elements can still be installed on two computers. - Bug fixes and performance improvements will be provided. - Camera Raw will be updated to support new cameras and lenses. You may want to check this thread on Adobe Community for detailed information on these licensing changes. You will also find a link to download a PDF file summarizing the changes. (Scroll down to a post by 99jon.) PSE 2025 IS NOW LIVE!

I have been using Elements for many years, and regularly upgrading where new features were beneficial. I am currently using version 2024. For me version 2025 adds nothing useful, and the "nail in its coffin" is the 3 year licence. If that is going to apply to future releases, then I will no longer upgrade, and Adobe will lose a long time loyal customer. A very "short sighted" move by Adobe.

OK, I found PSE2024 at Walmart for just under $82, download. I would have preferred a CD version but it seems to be pretty hard to come by already, at least at a comparable price. It seems to have installed correctly, but I not verified any of the functionality yet, not to mention all the plug-ins and such.

Out of interest, I downloaded a trial version of Affinity Photo 2. I have had a good 'play' with it, while its OK, IMO its nowhere near as intuitive or user friendly as Elements (I'm using v2024), IMO Elements is the better option. That said, as a matter of principle, I will no longer be upgrading, and I think that Adobe have "shot themselves in the foot" with this three year licence move. I wouldn't have upgraded to v2025 anyway, as for me its adds nothing useful over v2024, whereas versions v2026 and beyond may well be worthwhile upgrades. However, unless Adobe reverses this 3 year licence restriction, I'll not be buying them. I will continue to look at Elements alternatives.

Having downloaded the generous 180 day trial of Affinity Photo 2, and now having spent much more time exploring its capabilities, it has "grown on me". As such and after many years of using PSE, and several upgrades, I will definitely be moving from PSE to Affinity Photo 2. Had it not been for Adobe's decision to introduce a 3 year licence restriction, I would not have considered this. My guess is that other previously loyal customers, will likely make the same decision. The same probably occurred when they moved Photoshop and Lightroom, to an online only subscription platform. I guess that we, as hobby photographers are of little importance to Adobe.
