Sepiana,
I should have added that I couldn't find the Place command in the index... but when you mentioned Smart Object a few messages back, I found Smart Object in the index and yes, the Place command was on that page. Sorry, my comment about her book was not very complete. It's an excellent book, I refer to it constantly. Took it down to a copy shop and had it bound in a spiral binding - makes it very easy to use, the pages lie nice and flat.
And thanks for the link!
Paul

Paul, no problem. The important thing is that you found the information. Spiral binding -- What a great idea! A couple of my copies of The Missing Manual are falling apart. I guess I use these books a lot.

I was hoping to see this thread very useful thread end with that upbeat post by Sepiana. But no, I must add something I learned - this will be a positive message!
I've seen in several places how to resize a "placed" photo in a project. We are told to hold the shift key down as you grab a corner and try to resize it. My trouble was the aspect ratio was not preserved. Then, I noticed at the top of the page, there was a box you could check called "Constrain Proportions" and it was already checked. So, I had two things going to keep my aspect ratio and they canceled each other out. When I ignored holding down the shift key and simply relied on checking the box up at the top, I could grab a corner and resize to my heart's content.
Small discovery perhaps, but it was giving me some frustration for a while.
HTH,
Paul

That shift thing was in earlier versions, before 9, I believe.
I have been successful just using the corner, but now you have me interested. I'm going to see if I have "constrain" in 11. And maybe I have 9 on my other computer.
I'm going to check this out tomorrow.

The Constrain Proportions option has been available in Elements going back at least to version 7 (the earliest version I have installed on my computer). Holding the Shift key as you drag a corner handle is just another option. According to the Help file.

Thanks Sepiana - that's my experience also.
