CC - you pay monthly fee but also get full fledged Photoshop - approx. 120 bucks a year - and you are stuck with them. If you decide to quit the monthly fee - you don't have any programs - you lose access to Lightroom and Photoshop - nothing will be on your computer. If you go CC - you get all the updates. With DVD - you purchase and you get some of the updates but not all. Case in point - they added a dehaze filter to Lightroom - but only if you have the CC version. At the same time - if you go with DVD - you own it and have it until you die or whatever. I chose the DVD because I didn't want to become a slave to Adobe and pay into their pockets for eternity (although at times I feel like I am). Between Lightroom, Photoshop Elements 14 and On1 10 - I have everything that I really need for quite some time - as far as I can tell. ~bruce.

Thank you Bruce. Those were my thoughts exactly. I felt that i could live happily for awhile with the dvd and then upgrade if i wanted to. I am happy with pse 11 and don't miss what i dont have right? Something about the "cloud" Bothers me. Call me old school. Thanks

I thought if you had the subscription CC LR & PS and quit subscribing the programs still remain on your computer for use but you just don't get any updates?

Here is what Adobe says in their forum on this: Once you cancel your subscription, the product installed on your system would work fine for the consecutive 30 days as a trial version. Once those 30 days are up , your files and softwares would still be there but the software would then be giving you a pop up window requesting you to purchase the subscription . Without doing that , the product wouldnt work .

blackmutt,
I am with you. I am currently using LR5, the independent download, together with PSE13. I would love to try my hand with Photoshop, but the fact that you now have to subscribe to it and then loose the use of the program if you unsubscribe really irks me. So for the time being I am happy with what I have and try to use it to its full potential.

Here's what Laura Shoe, a LR trainer suggests. While I am a CC subscriber, I haven't downloaded LR yet but am also thinking about trying it.

Thanks for the info storkington. I was trying out the subscription for a while, don't know how long because I don't use it that often. Mainly LR for the raw files and PS for more capabilities for photo manipulation and special effects. I'm probably going to give the subscription up shortly because the little bit I do I find PSE11 & Topaz filters work fine for me. Once again, thanks for the info ... Dave

A couple of things you may want to consider before making your decision.
The subscription to CC Photography Plan is not really a monthly thing, it is for an annual subscription with the option of pre-paying an annual lump sum or USD 9.99 monthly for 12 months, and then it renews for another year. If you decide to cancel after the initial 14 days you will be charged 50% of the remaining months in your subscription. When I subscribed I did not read all the terms and conditions and found this out when I was going to cancel my subscription for the winter months when I am away in our RV. The nice customer service person I spoke to gave me two months "free" and I decided to keep my subscription going. If you cancel the CC subscription, Lightroom will still work, but the develop and Map modules won't. However you can still access your files and work on your catalogs.
Another thing you get with CC is Lightroom Mobile, which may not interest everyone, but was one of the key factors that made me subscribe. I love being able to sync collections between my computer and mobile devices, and then do edits, ratings etc on the IPad, and also have access to slide shows and collections on my mobile devices. Lightroom mobile works on Apple and Android devices and smart phones.
Although I now have the full blown version of Photoshop, I have not used it as I can barely master Elements. There are also other mobile apps such as Adobe Slate and Voice and the Cloud storage included.

I believe the CC Photography Plan is still a monthly subscription; at least mine is. Every month I get an e-mail from Adobe that my credit card account has been charged $9.99 + tax. I also have been told I can cancel it any time without a penalty.
Adobe may have made some changes. But I think this explains this cancellation clause. When Adobe first launched this plan, you had to sign up for it for one year although you could still opt to have the fee charged to your credit card on a monthly basis. Then, if you changed your mind before the first year was up, you would have to pay that fine.
That's why I can cancel my subscription any time without a penalty. I am beyond the first-year clause.

I think they may have changed their terms, I wanted to cancel last month and was told I would be charged. This is from Adobe's website.......
----------------------------------------- Cancel an annual membership
We’re sorry to see you go! You'll need to contact Adobe to cancel an annual membership. Here's how:
To cancel your annual membership at any time, click here to Contact Us and sign in with your Adobe ID and password.
The Need help? page will appear. Scroll down and choose your preferred contact option.
A customer care agent will assist you with canceling your plan.
If you cancel your annual membership (individual or team) within 14 days, you will receive a full refund. Otherwise, you are billed 50 percent of your remaining contract obligation. Before you cancel your membership, please read the Adobe subscription terms.
To cancel your membership in the last month (month 12), you don’t need to call customer support. Follow the steps in the "Cancel a month-to-month membership" section, below. --------------------
I hope after I have subscribed for a year I will have the option to cancel any time.

Pauline,
Thanks for the extra information! Yes, indeed, it looks like Adobe made some changes.

To subscribe at 9.99 + would include PS which I don't need, since I have my hands full with PSE and don't use it to it's full potential. If I am not looking to upgrade my camera anytime soon, I shouldn't need to worry about that issue. I have a D7000 Nikon - is there some where to check that the RAW files from that are compatible with LR6? Thanks!!!

Thanks - I have never upgraded my camera software - bad me. I should look into how to do that, I suppose.
