Adobe has released ACR 10.1 update for PSE 2018. If you don't get a pop-up about this update when you launch PSE 2018, just go to Help>Updates and proceed with the installation.
As a side note, you can check which ACR version you have by going to Help>About Plug-In>Camera Raw.

Hi all I am new here. I am an old git who has been taking photos for 60 years..shooting digital for 17 years. I've used Elements since it morphed from PS LE years ago and used PS full version 20 years ago..when we were scanning slides. I've used PSE 3, 6, 8, 10, 11 and now have installed PSE 2018. I own the new Sony A7III. My old PSE 11 would not process the RAW files from this camera, but ACR 10.3 and 10.4 are supposed to work. helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.htmlHowever, even after installing, first 10.3 and then 10.4, the PSE 2018 only recognizes 10.2 that came with the PSE 2018 installed today. As Sepiana showed above, when I do [Help>About Plug-In>Camera Raw] all is see is the same window as shown above except mine says Version 10.2 ... How do I get PSE 2018 to acknowledge the ACR 10.4? Or 10.3? Thanks for your help! Clive Alberta, Canada

Hi Clive, welcome to PSE&M! Glad to have you here.
I have two copies of PSE 2018; neither one got the ACR 10.3 or 10.4 update. I may be wrong but I think these two ACR updates are for Photoshop CC. I have two copies of PS CC and both show ACR 10.4.
One of our members, michelb , is an Adobe Certified Professional on the Adobe forums. I am going to bring your inquiry to his attention. He will be able to elaborate on this issue. Hang in there!
If Adobe is not releasing the ACR 10.3 or 10.4 update for PSE 2018, you can convert your camera's Raw files to the non-proprietary DNG format by using Adobe's free DNG Converter. Once your Raw files have been converted to DNG, they should open in the Raw Converter in PSE 2018.
Adobe DNG Converter 10.4 (Windows)
Adobe DNG Converter 10.4 (Mac)

Thanks Sepiana.
Yes, I think you are correct and until PSE 2018 accepts 10.3 or 10.4 I can't use raw files directly. I downloaded the raw/dng converter and used it a few weeks ago as per Adobe Forums suggestion.
However, I was so pleased with the quality of the fine jpegs out of the A7III (no noise even at high ISO), I've been shooting jpegs and will revert to the RAW format when the updates happen.
Thanks for alerting michelb to this. There was a thread on Adobe Forums a few weeks ago and it fizzled.
I'll be patient and stay tuned.
Thanks.
Clive

Hi all ... However, even after installing, first 10.3 and then 10.4, the PSE 2018 only recognizes 10.2 that came with the PSE 2018 installed today. ... Hi pontiac1940 and welcome to PSE&M, How did you install 10.3 and 10.4? From your post it doesn't sound like you installed them via the Updates menu item in PSE (I have PSE 14). Unless you go through the Updates option, I doubt very much PSE would recognise any updates of ACR installed independently of it. Also, maybe Adobe allow only slightly older and scaled down versions of ACR to be shipped with and updated in PSE to try to entice users to Photoshop CC.

Unless you go through the Updates option, I doubt very much PSE would recognise any updates of ACR installed independently of it. That should not be a problem. I have installed ACR updates in PSE without going through Help>Updates. All you need is the correct (compatible) Camera Raw.8bi file. Then, you just navigate the path below to install it.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements x.x\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi
As a side note, these instructions came from the Adobe Photoshop Elements forum. See post #3 by 99ion, Adobe Community Professional & MVP.

That's very interesting. I had a look at the link you posted and I can follow and understand the steps described. But something feels illogical about the way Adobe allow you to manually update ACR to the latest version, in theory at least as described in your link, but you can't do the update via the Updates menu option . I checked the version of ACR I currently have in my PSE 14. It's ACR 9.5. When I go to Help -> Updates in my PSE 14, it comes back saying all my applications are up to date. But according to the information in your link I can bypass Help->Updates and manually install ACR 10.4 as a plug-in for my PSE 14. I don't understand why Adobe would allow users to bypass Help->Updates. I have an uncomfortable feeling in my bones telling me ACR 10.4 might not work with my PSE 14.

Just adding some clarification, particularly for the benefit of new users of PSE.
Adobe is not in the habit of continuing to release ACR updates for earlier PSE versions. Any ACR release is designed for the current PSE version, in this case, PSE 2018. This means that ACR 10.4 is not compatible with PSE 15 and earlier versions.

The info in the link talks about PSE 13. I didn't notice the date stamp on the post (font was too tiny) which after a closer look is 2015. I suppose PSE 13 was the latest version at the time and so it makes sense now. On the first quick reading of the info I assumed it wasn't the latest version of PSE and so that it why bypassing Help->Updates and manually updating ACR to the latest version felt illogical for them to allow users to do. All is good now Do you mean for free ? I don't do consultancy work anymore. I'm sure they have their own employees and consultants to advise on what is best

Unfortunately, there has been no info at all about the availability of an update to 10.3 or 10.4 for Elements, neither in the Elements user to user forum nor in the feedback forum. See the last posts by JEA:
To make things worse, ACR has a bug in ACR 10.2 inherited from Photoshop...
By the way, I strongly advise not to attempt to install an ACR update manually in Elements. I did it with PSE13 and that made big problems afterwards with the AAM installer. Better use the DNG converter if needed.

Thanks Sepiana and all.
Thanks Michel: "By the way, I strongly advise not to attempt to install an ACR update manually in Elements." Oops. That's what I did. The 10.2 is still in PSE 2018 and works okay, I just can't open RAW files from the new camera: Sony A7III. ACR works well in PSE 2018 with raw files from my older A77.
So I'll just have to be patient and wait for Adobe to allow 10.3 or 10.4 to be compatible with PSE 2018. Thanks for your help.
