Cousins. These are a pair of kookaburras which are from the kingfisher family. They landed on the balcony railing next door one day and I snapped a photo which I processed by placing them into a different background.

Interesting to see the similarities in the two birds, Sydney.

The twigs and leaves are 5 different brushes with a gradient and textures applied to them individually. Low-opacity gradient background. Finished with Topaz Impression Chiaroscuro applied at 45% strength. Small Border set to Linear Burn Mode. Rita, thanks for this detailed information! I really like the effect you achieved with your brush work. The twigs and leaves look so delicate!

These little guys are hard to photograph Pete, this would make a perfect illustration for the saying -- "A bird in the hand . . .". Great choice of background (colors harmonize with the bird's colors).

I love how you have the two kookaburras "perched" on the background. Very creative!

- Created the composite with a photo I took at Yosemite NP. - Applied Palette Effects by Blake Rudis. - Applied a texture by Deluzion.

That is really stunning,Sepiana. I love the overall effect of the colours. Don't know what that is called. Is it 'muted'.

whippet , thanks for the kind words! I appreciate you taking the time to write an individual comment. The colors are essentially the result of applying the Lomograph Effect using Palette Effects by Blake Rudis. Then, I did some tweaking by adding a "dirty blue oilcloth" texture by Deluzion.
