So much to like about this photo, Clive......the windblown grasses, the sky and this wonderful old wooden treasure. The ragged edge of the roof adds interest as well.

Somewhere between Hangzhou and Wuxi, China on the bullet train traveling along at a "lazy" 305kmh. I used shutter priority of 1/3200s and ISO 800 with 70mm focal length. These settings allowed an aperture of f4 which gave a good DOF since the subjects were a long way away from the train.

Clive, I like the way you have the house angled in your composition. While we were away I came across a house that was similar to yours and was thinking of you. When I get finished up with my current project I hope to start looking at my "fun" pictures from our trip.......no movement, outdoor natural light, no one walking in front of what you are trying to capture.....
Bailey....quite an amazing capture given the circumstances....perfect for this theme!

Thank you hmca.
The posted image has been cropped a bit as well.
The basic technique I use is to look ahead through the window for possible interesting features to shoot. If I wait until they are opposite me I have no chance to take a shot before it passes by since everything is passing by extremely quickly at 300kmh, even fairly distant features.
As something potentially interesting is approaching I shoot it in burst mode as it passes by hoping first that the feature is actually interesting and secondly that I get at least 1 keeper from the burst.
On that particular train trip I took 360+ photos, all burst mode. After I went through them all at the hotel that evening I ended up with 28 keepers, the posted image being one of them.

Reviving an old thread. I took this one a while ago, and I've been trying for several years to come up with processing that felt right. Finally got it the way I want it. The is an old fishing cabin on the Colorado River near Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado. It has been abandoned for at least 30 years, and probably quite a bit more than that. The big trees that are nearly touching the building lend some credence to my assumption. Processed in Lightroom and Nik Silver Efex Pro

What a great addition to this thread, preeb! The processing certainly seems to match the age and ruggedness of the old cabin. For whatever reason, seeing the picture immediately brought to mind a book I had read....
"The Boys in the Boat".....but that was set in Washington state.

This barn finally gave up and collapsed during the winter after I took this. The next time I drove by, it was just a pile of old lumber.
