Chrome browers woes

Clive, Not really a solution, but a suggestion.

I always have at least 2 viable browsers installed in addition to native MS browser.... Chrome & Firefox are currently my 2 choices

Chrome was uninstalled, but the folders were still all present here:
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
I get nervous messing about deep inside the file bowels. (The folder was backed up first.) Rebooted my computer, and the files were still there. Should the "Chrome" and lower files have been be removed manually? That makes me nervous, eh?

I did install Chrome again (with the old Chrome folders/files still in place figuring they'd be over written anyway.) Then the backed-up "bookmarks" file was put into the <Default> folder. I actually put two copies there "bookmarks" and "bookmarks.bak" ...  I manually changed the extension of second file. The two files are identical.

Still think Chrome is faster and the connection at the summer place is "okay" but not great, so would prefer it. 

Maybe I'll just copy the FireFox bookmarks and import them and see what happens...quite a few of the once-current Chrome bookmarks are missing as I've not used FF much for 2 or 3 years.

I did a direct import from FF to Chrome ... Chrome allows direct import without having to export from FF.

This is all fine, but not included are  some newer sites added to Chrome since leaving FF. Oh well.
