Please move if in wrong place. I purchased PS Elements 2018 and Premier Elements (video editor) in summer 2018. I have the disc and keys for both. I have just purchased a new laptop (that connects to a 24-inch monitor) as my main computer. (Replacing a nearly-7-yo ASUS laptop that has become unstable ... kinda like its owner. ) The new machine does not have an optical drive (i.e. disc drive), so I purchased an external drive that is still in the unopened box so easy to return. Since I have the key, can I download the PSE and Premier directly to the new computer from Adobe? .. then I can return the optical disc drive. (I will also buy a new downloadable version of MS Suite, i.e. Word etc.) A quick check seems to indicate that this can be done ... here. I have an Adobe ID number/account. Perhaps there are some things I need to be aware of. Suggestions welcome. Thanks. Clive

As far as know, the recent download of older Adobe software has made downloading more difficult. While there is no doubt that Adobe supports the download for the current and the immediately older version, the options depend on the type of your purchase: by download directly from Adobe or from a purchased box. With direct downloads, All versions of Elements (from PSE8 I think) can be downloaded directly from your Adobe Account ('plans', 'My products', 'Purchases') but with a boxed version, you'll need to call 'Customer Care' who can do it for you.
If your 'unstable' computer allows it, you can make a copy of your install disk to a USB thumb drive, that's the simplest solution. Don't forget to 'deactivate' your PSE on the old computer (menu Help >> Sign out) to recover your two allowed activations. If you can't do that from the old computer, call Customer Care (by chat) and ask both for the download and the deactivation.

You may need to de-register Adobe from your ASUS laptop.
Not that you asked, but I suggest trying Libre Office, an open source office suite. I've been using it for a number of years with no compatibility problems sharing or receiving MS office files.

Thanks Peter. Way back, I tried Open Office which seems to be similar to Libre Office. For general writing it was good, but formatting complex tables was a problem.
I probably won't get back to PSE on the new machine until tonight.

Clive, LO is a fork of OO.
My experience with LO is: documents, spread sheets, and presentations - however I haven't had the need for complex tables in spread sheets.

you'll need to call 'Customer Care' who can do it for you. michelb Thanks. I found an Adobe 1-800 number online, but was patched through to PS help. The Photoshop help line is 1-800-833-6687 The kind tech sent me links for the PSE and Premier downloads and they seemed to go well and PSE is working so far. The error message below appeared after both installs. So far PSE is working well. I did not have to de-activate PSE 2018 on the old computer. Peterj I found a direct download for MS Suite Office Pro for only a few dollars at Amazon so will give it a try. Thanks for the suggestions. Clive

I never use phone for help, only chat. There is much less waiting time and I am more at ease for a written conversation with Indian helpers... You say you did not have to deactivate, that is normal. However if you have to reinstal again on a new computer, your two activations will be already used and you'll have to deactivate one of the older ones. If like me you have two activations for two different computers it's necessary to deactivate the computer which won't be used. If you can't because the computer is stolen or broken, just ask in customer care. For the error message, did you look into the link for 'error summary'? I don't use Premiere.

did you look into the link for 'error summary'? No I did not look .. or nothing came up. Was lots going on. The exact msg appeared for both installs: PSE and Premier. I've only used PSE so far (don't do much video). PSE is running okay at least for the little I have done so far. I will search install errors later today. Thanks Clive
