I’m sure I used to be able to use the colour picker tool to sample a colour from outwith PSE - say for example from a web page - but it seems I no longer can. I have tried with Versions 13,15 and 2020 but it’s no go. It's not a facility I have used often but it would be nice to still be able to do it if required.
I’ve tried resetting all my tools but that has had no effect.
Anyone any ideas please?

Lillias, One work around (a bit cumbersome if you need a few colors) is to use the snipping tool (Windows) and take a screen snip of an area on a web page (or?) from which you need a color. Copy the snip and then create a new image in PSE and paste the snip into the new image. Once this second image is inside PSE you can use the color picker as usual. Alternately, you can "print screen" to capture the entire web page and create a new blank image and paste the captured screen into the new blank image. Clive

Thank you so much Clive for that information. It is always handy to have different ways of doing things however since posting my question a friend reminded me of a thread from a while back which gave the instructions I had been trying to remember myself but couldn't. For anyone interested they are to be found in this thread here...

BillieJean, It is odd to have a given tool not working in more than one version of Elements. After I saw your post, I tried the Color Picker in all the versions I have (a total of 10). This tool works flawlessly. Therefore, I am inclined to steer the troubleshooting into another direction -- the technique (steps) being followed.

Clive Here is a simpler way to do this (with fewer steps) . . . Once you have taken your snip, just go to Elements and do File>New>Image from Clipboard. This will bring it into Elements; no need to create a new file. This will also work if you use "Print Screen" on your keyboard.

Yes, lots of ways. I'd just hit <ctrl><n> and then <ctrl><v> to create the new snipping tool capture ... no need to flatten the new image file to use the color picker.

Thanks to Bayla for passing on that tip from TonyW. Glad all is well now. I couldn't imagine the Color Picker (or any tool for that matter) misbehaving in more than one version of Elements at the same time.

I am really pleased this topic was started. I often see colours which I really like. Now I will be able to obtain them.
