This Blurred Border Creative Effects Challenge will create a Blurred Border around your Image. Hopefully you will find this useful and fun to do. Start Image Final Image Lets get Started: 1. Open an Image 2. Duplicate it twice (Ctrl/CMD+j) 3. Rename the top layer BLURRED BORDER 4. Make sure the BLURRED BORDER layer is selected – go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Set the Radius between 75 and 100. I used 100 on this 6000x4000 image. Adjust your blur amount as needed. 5. Use the Rectangle Marquee tool to make a select for the opening of the border. 6. Go to Select>Inverse to inverse your selection or press shift+Ctrl/CMD+I. 7. Click on the add layer mask icon or go to Layer>Layer Mask>Reveal Selection. 8. You should now see the BLURRED BORDER with the original image inside. 9. At this point you can add styles to define the BLURRED BORDER layer. i.e Bevel, Stroke, Drop Shadow, etc. 10. To adjust the size, position or shape of the border. Do the following a. Turn off the link between the image and the layer mask on the BLURRED BORDER layer. b. Select the layer mask by clicking on it– it should now have a highlight around it. c. Press Ctrl/CMD+t to transform it. 11. Done Layer Stack

It took me a long time to find an image that I was happy with. It made me realize how tight I crop my images. I finally found this one and like Karen, I really like the effect. I'm not happy with my inner shadow though. I always have a hard time getting a shadow that I like in PS!

Thanks Frank. I don't recall how I did this (last February) or if it's the same as your tutorial. The blurred border can be quite effective.

Frank, it looks like you got another winner -- an easy and short tutorial! And, as usual, with the door wide open for tweaking and lots of fun. - Applied a layer style I had created (Inner Glow-Shadow). - Applied a Bevel layer style (Scalloped Edge).

Here is my Layer Stack. Used a shape for the Layer Mask, Converted the frame to B&W by clipping a B&W gradient map adjustment layer to it.
