Northern saw-whet owl in the river valley today. Twigs made me crop it very tight.

Why the name "Saw-Whet" ? Cross-cut saw or circular saw or band-saw ?
I have been around all manner of saws all my life and have never saw anyone whet one; grind or file yes, but never whet, which is done with a stone.

Why the name "Saw-Whet" ? You are correct. But there seems to be no clear consensus. All About Birds writes: The Northern Saw-whet Owl may have been named for giving a call that sounds like a saw being sharpened on a whetting stone, but there is no consensus as to which of its several calls gave rise to the name.

Sorry, yes I did, Charles. The background was already slightly blurred.....just wanted to emphasize the focus on the stump a bit more and try out the LR feature.

I took these shots while shopping today at Ralph's grocery. It was made of plastic but really stood out in the crowd and I thought it might be useful for creating a background photo/texture sometime. I'm not sure if it was supposed to represent cherry blossoms or what?

Down at the Honk and Holler ... Yup that is a bit of much needed snow. There is hope that the mountain snowpack will get a big boost this week. Pray it is so. Then we can brush and flush all summer. Might even get to shower.

Not sure we have those red ones.
By "out the window" you mean through the glass, right ?
