We are having winter at the moment with some relief in 3 or 4 days. (It is 20C° below average...that's close to 40 F colder than average.) Going to chase snow geese on Wednesday...sort of expecting the destination lake to be iced over. Not sure. I spent 90 minutes outside today dancing with Briggs (my snow blower) and snow shovels. Also filled the bird feeders and set up the heated water dish for the birds. Was fine. Inside, I can take photos from the back patio doors (the blue jay) and also through the sitting room windows. Small birds hang close to the sitting room windows as there is feeder nearby and assorted bushes on which the birds can perch. Good entertainment for a crazy old git who likes to take photos. Lucky me. Anyway, I took close to 300 photos today out the windows. I've yet to go through them all but thought I'd share these. Artistically, the first two are the best. But the third photo just blows me away. Feeling most fortunate. And no, that snowflake is not Photoshopped. Blue jay
Guy type house finch
Yup, that's a perfectly shaped snowflake on the forehead of this female house finch. Way cool. Made my day.

That snowflake is quite unique, centered and everything.
I am anxious to see the other 297.

I am anxious to see the other 297. HA HA! I might post a couple more tomorrow. My cull rate is pretty high. That snowflake is quite unique, centered and everything. Thanks. Yes, it is perfect. A nice, 6-point (they are all 6-point) flake that is perfectly placed. Pretty magical.

I like how they are “fluffed up” to keep warm.
Like you, I often took photos through the windows, but they were never as clear as yours. Want to come over and wash my windows? It’s obvious, you do a much better job than I.
Such beautiful photos.

These images are delightful Clive. I particularly like the Blue Jay with the greenery around him but they are all so beautiful.

Thank you all for your comments. I can see why. Super capture! Thanks Helen. I never saw the snowflake when I took the photo. My new camera has "eye focus" that locks the focus on a human, animal or bird eye. It is super handy. Point being, I was concentrated on the eye-focus display icon. The snow flake struck me when I first saw it in my computer. Made my day. Clive

Beautiful photos, Clive! I especially love the blue jay...but the snowflake on the finch is a close second! Can't wait to see more.

We are having winter at the moment
I just now looked at the thermometer and thought of your poor cold snowy birds; right now, it is a sunny 79° American outside.
However, the weekend promises low twenties; and, in typical Kentucky fashion, as always ahead of any cool weather, we will get a heavy all day/night rain ahead of the cold, so that everything will be soaked and waterlogged so it can then freeze solid.

Wow - the Blue Jay shot made me gasp, the Guy House Finch made me smile, the Female House Finch with bonus snowflake made me stare - Thanks so much for sharing Clive. What a great group of shots - and taken thru a window no less makes me just shake my head.
Next up waltzing birds dressed in 3-piece suits, their partners adorned with sea-shell necklaces!

Depending on weather there is a lot of opportunity to photograph out the windows...the colder and snowier the better. During warm spells (now) we see far fewer birds. Window shooting can be easy but only if the angles are right, i.e. the lens has to be close to perpendicular to the window glass. Also, there can't be any glare.
