Thanks, Helen: I just spotted this and looked it over.
I have wished many times that I could follow the advice to always carry my camera with me; however, I lead such a dangerous (and should be photographed) existence that a DSLR wouldn't make it through the first week; climbing in and out of big trucks; operating various trackhoes, backhoes, loaders, forklifts, log-skidders, and the like; handling wild cattle by the hundreds per day; riding half-broke horses in places where angels fear to tred; slinging big tri-axle dump-trucks around as hard and fast as they will go; etc.; etc.
I have witnessed and experienced countless scenes and episodes that should have been documented on film or digital, and not a camera around.
Maybe we should hire a designated photographer to just follow us around.
I even pulled a spell working for Norfolk-Southern, mostly in a huge switch-yard, with thousands of photographic opportunities every day; however, if I were caught with a camera it was immediate termination.
If a person followed those five suggestions there is no doubt that they would become a better photographer.

WOW, Buckskin you sure have a lot of energy and must be in great shape! I am exhausted just reading about your day. I know this is good advice but I don't do it most days either. Right now I have a portrait assignment and am on the lookout for some interesting subjects.....you sound perfect!

It must be more will-power and perseverance; it's sure not an abundance of energy and good physical shape. Some friends of our's cut timber and log it out with big teams of mules; this has been their livelihood all their life. A few years ago, a guy with a camera asked to follow them around; turns out this guy was Byron Crawford and these old rough-shod logger guys got theirselves on the front cover of the Courier Journal magazine; kind of like the old adage "F11 and be there"

Thanks Helen for sharing that article, I don't have a china girl doll, but I do have an action figure that I'm going to try carrying around on a daily basis and hopefully put him in some weird locations. Jacki.
