All three are interesting. The bottom left and right haze in the third adds depth and interest for me.

Love these kinds of posts that require us to think both critically and creatively. My first thought was that I liked the one without the lantern. That was because I seemed to find it a distraction to the overall scene. However, on closer inspection, I think it was the lantern itself that was creating the issue for me. I thought it needed to be more well defined. I liked the rod that she was holding and decided that the lantern added interest and seemed to give the scene a more "finished" look. So then the question was.....how to address the lantern? I did a quick search on StockSolo and came up with one (I'm sure you could find others) that might be adapted as a replacement. Unlike Pete, I like the darkened base. This will be a fun thread to follow, thanks for creating it, Frank.

Agree that the two with the light detract from the rest of the image so I'd go with the second or tone down the light so it blends better with the rest.

Number 2 for me. As others have said, the light distracts and the haze effect on the third conflicts with the overall dark tone. These things are very personal however.
Nice shot though.

I would like to see the moon on the other side, just to see if it gives a more balanced look. The third image appeals more to my eye.

I prefer #3. Although the lamp draws a lot of attention to itself, it seems natural that she needs it in the third image because of the fog and the somewhat foreboding blackness on the right margin that she seems to be walking toward. I also like the idea of moving the moon to the right side for balance.

As others ... middle without the lantern.

I'll throw my hat in for the second one. As with others, the lantern bothers me in that it has no definition. I'm not a fan of the fog at the bottom of the third one, as I feel it detracts from the dark 'feel' of the image. I really do love the second one, Frank!

Thanks for all the comments. This is my current final - the jury is still out on the fog.

Great way to incorporate the comments, Frank. The main point is that you like your image. If you like the fog, then reintroduce the fog. We're not the final arbiters of your image. YOU are!
And I do really like this version!
