The tip of a ballpoint pen. It was taken using a USB macro lens. A bit fiddly to get the focus just right but it does a fair job for what it is..

You can see it with a fairly powerful magnifying glass. There are only three basic colours to a colour monitor. It's mixing these up that gives all the colours we see. It relies on the eye and brain not being able to see or interpret what is going on in such detail from a distance. It was the same with the old CRT monitors but the colours were produced differently. I used to know how that was done but to be honest, I haven't read up on exactly how it's done with an LCD monitor or TV. I know the basic principle of the eye not being able to see those individual tiny dots is the same though.
