Last night, friends and I spent a couple of hours watching the night sky just north of our summer place in anticipation of a good aurora show. There were weak aurora most of the time but they were half-decent for only 3 or 4 minutes. The above photos were taken from the county range road. They were short lived. We went closer to the old house and they never returned. This is my now favorite aurora location. It is 20 minutes from our summer place and 90 minutes from our home. The location is so good, I'd drive from home if here was a solid forecast. (Aurora are hard to forecast and finicky.) The house makes for an interesting foreground and there are no farm lights visible in the background as the land rises to the north. Perfect. This is the Milky Way galactic core looking south from the county road near the house. There was some haze near the horizon and unfortunately many disturbing lights mainly from the wind turbines. I cloned them out.

Great pictures of the Aurora, I only have memories of visits to Churchill MB many years ago, and spent many evenings watching the amazing displays of as we called them then "Northern Lights", and the accompanying snapping sounds! Had a few pictures, but were all lost!
