My problem: Unexpected behavior when using content aware fill. I just moved from PSE3 to PSE13 and am trying new tools.
I have a photo of a church that's marred by electric poles and wires, so want to remove them. To do so, I'm usm Lasso select to encircle the poles and then Edit -> Fill Layer to apply Content Aware fill. That gets rid of the worst. However, when I then try to use Clone Stamp to fix the rest, I'm stymied that Clone Stamp only works in the area defined by the lasso select. I am unable to change the photo outside that area using the Clone Stamp tool. That's a definite drat! I've tried working on the Background Layer and on a copied layer - I get the same results either way.
While I could skip content aware fill and work just with Clone Stamp, it seems a shame. Any suggestions/hints/fixes?

Harvey - It would be helpful if you could post the picture so that the members here can help. We find it is often difficult to make specific editing recommendations without seeing the photo.

Andy,
Thanks for responding. Curiously, the problem has gone away. Do you have an excess of good karma that accompanied your response and fixed my copy of PSE13?
I was getting to respond to you suggestion that the problem is not about a photo, but about a technique. But to be sure the problem wasn't related to a particular photo, I went back to PSE, closed the Editor, and selected in the Organize another photo with poles and lines to edit. Of course, Fill Layer/Content Aware followed by Clone Stamp work without a hitch! And now they work on the original photo where the combo was not working moments ago. Good karma? Who know.
Please don't hesitate to respond to any future questions about PSE13 problems I may have.

When an area is selected, actions only take effect within the selection. Were you expecting something different?

Sorry, I had forgotten to mention that I had deselected the selection after applying the Layer Fill, so yes, I had expected something different.

Harvey,
If you are doing everything by the book and a given tool is not working properly, try resetting it. Go to the right end of the Tool Options bar; click on the four-lined square; and select "Reset Tool".

Didn't know about that. Thanks for the suggestion.
