The first Thursday in the month is when we kick off the month's B&W challenge. Sorry, we are one day late. Storefront signs will be the December B&W challenge.
I selected the theme and realized my collection of store signs was lacking. So on this dull, snowy day I drove downtown and took a few shots of old and modern storefronts.
These were all processed in ACR with adjustments to levels and contrast. They were all desaturated in ACR but then I used the Gradient Map Adjustment layer (with B & W set as the foreground and background "colours") to do minor level tweaks to B, W and grays as needed ... to my eye. The Buster's sign is on the ultra-modern town square building that just opened a few months ago. Armand's Barbershop is closed. Some "new" store fronts are on old buildings.
Here are a bunch of examples from today on main street in our little town. Let's see what you can come up with. Feel free to use archive photos or perhaps you can take new photos for this B&W challenge.
