I've had some success merging photos with different exposures EXCEPT for an odd edge where one layer is masked. In this image the darker layer (top part of image) was masked to expose the lighter layer. The dark treetops are the result of the mask not being perfect. My question is why the edge of the lighter layer has a bluish tint.

BTW: I get the same thing when I select an area with the Magic Wand and change the exposure of the selected area.

I'm not the best person to answer this but I would try to apply a feather before applying the effect. If your version of elements has the refine edge option I would suggest playing with that before applying the effect. I also recall something about applying a drop shadow to the selection which you can use the settings to help hide the light halo. I'm sure someone on here will recommend a good tutorial. Hope these ideas help or someone jumps in with something better. Shaun

Echoing Shaun, I would think that applying a feather to the mask would help avoid that sharp line.

BTW: I get the same thing when I select an area with the Magic Wand and change the exposure of the selected area. It looks like you need to fine-tune the edges of your selection. That’s where the Refine Edge command comes into play. It will allow you to remove the jagged edges around your selection (Smooth slider); soften the edges (Feather); and adjust the size of the selection (Shift Edge).
I noticed you have Elements 12. Starting with Elements 11, the Refine Edge feature is the same one available in Photoshop, the so-called "deluxe" version. Give it a chance!

You could also try the Defringe command to clean up unsightly halos/fringes around the edges of your selection.
