When we were in the UK a few months ago we visited Lacock Abbey, where William Henry Fox Talbot made what may be the earliest surviving photographic camera negative in 1835. This is open to debate but nonetheless it's a lovely property and grounds and now houses an interesting photography display. Here's the camera and image along with the abbey itself. It's well worth a visit if you're in the Cotswolds. The village is beautiful too...more like a film set than a real place.
