That boy was on that horse when I got there and still on him when I left; no wonder it is as poor as a snake.
That old plantation Buena Vista Saddle, with the limber stirrup leathers and shoe-grabbing iron stirrups, coupled with the combat boots he is wearing, is a sure recipe for disaster; however, you couldn't kill one of that bunch with a fire-place poker so he'll be alright.
When I was a kid, you could hardly give a spotted horse away; nobody wanted one; some illiterate fountain of country-store porch wisdom started the erroneous belief amongst his equally unenlightened peers that a spotted horse had "pony blood" and therefore was not to be desired; the belief spread throughout the region.
Now, a spotted horse of equal quality will fetch a premium price of three to five times as much as a solid-color horse.
