My dd #3 decided to do the Windows 10 upgrade on her newish (<3 months) laptop, but it seems to be taking forever to download (hasn't even reached the installation window yet). Has been downloading for getting on for 24 hours now - is this normal?

My dd #3 decided to do the Windows 10 upgrade on her newish (<3 months) laptop, but it seems to be taking forever to download (hasn't even reached the installation window yet). Has been downloading for getting on for 24 hours now - is this normal? Bayla Did she receive the notification by Microsoft that her computer was ready for the update? She can check that from the Windows Update window. To give you an idea about how that should work, here is how that worked for me. Receiving no notification in the first days (I did not want to update so soon) I had a look at various faqs on the Windows site. This led me to check in the Windows Update log that the update had failed for a given error number. I had to leave my desktop for two weeks. When I was back, same situation. Same error message everyday. The message got an answer in the faqs: the download was fine, contrary to what was often said on the web, and all I had to do is that I had to wait for my computer to be ready, which could mean several days or weeks... Since there is a check of the computer after each attempt, I suppose there is an adaptation of the update process to my own case. It's an update to a French version of Windows 8.1 (just recently upgraded). I have many programs and utilities installed. I was warned before the update was ready that my Spyder3 calibration device was not compatible, so I had just installed a Spyder 5 one. No other device drivers were stated as incompatible. Finally, a few days afterwards, starting the process from the Windows Update menu (and installing a lot of Win 8.1 updates), I was able to reach the notification that the process was ready. I had an Acronis backup and starting media just in case, so I went ahead. When I came back after a few hours (I don't know if the process required more than one hour) everything seemed ok. Of course, the change of interface required some getting used to (less so than migrating from W7 to 8.1). Result: PSE13.1.1, Lightroom 5.7 and Photoshop CC run ok. Same for the OnOne suite and several photo editing tools. The only 'glitch' I encoutered at one point is that the ACR converter would not work in PSE or CC... After a new reboot, that was solved. I have not run comprehensive tests, but I have been able to process hundreds of files from my holidays. Just a note about a problem I had with the Spyder5: with W8.1, I had to load the profile manually everyday. Same behaviour after the W10 update. I had to search on Datacolor site to find the workaround, and that works now. So, my feedback is globally positive, even if I still don't see the point in the 'new' features

Well dd waited over three weeks with the message that Windows 10 is downloading (but when she clicked on the button to see where it was up to nothing happened!). In the meantime her laptop was running sooooo slow and not letting her access the internet so she cancelled the reservation. She feels she's stuck between a rock and a hard place - hates Windows 8 but doesn't seem to be able to move on to Windows 10! On the other hand youngest dd has gone from 8 to 10 on her laptop and is very happy with it.
