Amazing! The composition of the first one is so balanced and interesting. Actually looks like a composite of three images!

Amazing to see these photographs. I'm thinking how amazing it must be to actually see these birds in real life.

Awesome photos, especially the trio in the first photo, perfectly frozen in sync with each other. The noise must be deafening when you’re out there in your camouflage.

My advice = watch carefully where you step, keep your hat on your head, and don't look up without a face-shield.

Doing what you love and what you are so good at! Howard's comment made me take a cloer look at the first photo. Shutter speed so fast that you can see the water droplets dropping of them. Great capture.

Actually looks like a composite of three images! Yes, it does. See below. At 10 fps sometimes they line up well. The is a screen shot of about one third of the snow goose photos yesterday. It was a super event for me. Got a few good photos. I'm thinking how amazing it must be to actually see these birds in real life. I"ve watched these in spring and fall for years. We are on their migration route. I never tires of the spectacle. The noise must be deafening when you’re out there in your camouflage. I was lucky to get so close. The camo does help. I did record some video and try to figure out how to post a the sound. Crazy. My advice = watch carefully where you step, keep your hat on your head, and don't look up without a face-shield. HA HA! Doing what you love and what you are so good at! Howard's comment made me take a cloer look at the first photo. Shutter speed so fast that you can see the water droplets dropping of them. Great capture. Thanks, Helen. I enjoy this stuff. There was reflective snow on the ground, sunny and white birds. I was shooting at 1/2,000 second and ISO 125 mainly. A good camera and good 600-mm lens helps. About one third of yesterday's snow geese photos. I will NOT Take photos today. Brain exploding. Thanks all!

The noise must be deafening when you’re out there in your camouflage. Here is an audio from a poor video yesterday. The first 13 seconds are when they all got up when an eagle flew by. The last few seconds is just the ambient noise from undisturbed geese. Music to my ears.

I went for a drive after dinner and took 6 photos of distant geese in fields. So I was close to none.

Always enjoy and appreciate your stunning bird shots Clive . . Thanks for sharing them! Sometimes seeing your shots encourages me to venture out and take some myself and sometimes they just make me want to hang up the camera and stay home ;^)

I know the feeling you speak of. Sometimes when I see outstanding photo work I jokingly say, "I am selling all my gear and joining a convent." But we just keep getting getting out and doing the best we can remembering that the most important people to make happy is you and me. Sure I share photos (as demanded by my ego) but I feel good when I get a photo that I think is good. If others have better photos that's okay. Perhaps I will learn something or be encouraged to do better. I am 77 and digital is the best thing ever to keep me busy and happy. Clive

Clive Wise words and sage advise Clive - ideally if photography is a hobby it should be about creating something we find pleasing instead of trying to please others. Can't imagine taking bird photos with film . . not knowing how they turned out for quite awhile and limiting yourself to only take a shot when it's a good one. I remember a time when I practiced treating digital like film after reading an article . . it did tend to make me view a shot in more depth than I had been doing and was a good excersize . . but I just saw that I took 5,000 photos in October and almost 2,000 last Month so I guess that mindset has fallen by the wayside for me ;^) Keep 'em comin' Clive!

At 10 fps, on flying birds I'd been in a homeless shelter very fast if I was using film. Sure is burst shoot and shoot a lot of everything BUT I am taking better photos today than ever in my life. It is because I am not restricted. Shoot. Learn from mistakes. Shoot more. Get better. Thanks Dan, I'll try to keep them coming. I've been quiet here as I do a lot of Facebook things, and you know, life. Onward. PS: This is a bit crazy. I bought the Sony A7IV in Oct 2022 ... 17 months ago. The last photo taken yesterday afternoon was number 88,028 !! Some say crazy but it's keeping me sane and probably 500 would make high-end prints. Kind of arrogant but there are some good photos in that mass. All good.
