We waited three nights for the aurora to appear. The forecasts predicted amazing shows on Friday and Saturday night. Nope. NOTES: The aurora were visible to the eye, however cameras "see" more than our eyes because of the shutter speeds and somewhat high ISOs. These were shot at a WB 4,000°K that closely emulates night skies. The temperature was lowered to 3,800°K in ACR. Only levels and contrast have been adjusted in these photos. Saturation has not been adjusted. These are the best reds I've ever seen. Photographed in the park across the road about 150 m from our house.

Wonderful.
Is it worth changing WB to your suggested settings for any shots involving a lot of night sky, would you say?

Is it worth changing WB to your suggested settings for any shots involving a lot of night sky, would you say? Yes, Howard. A cooler WB results in colours more like real night skies. AWB night photos tend to be too warm. It is important to repeat that our cameras see more than our eyes. I have a mirrorless camera and the EVF shows me close to what the photo will look like....a HUGE advantage of EVFs. If shooting raw you can always adjust temperature in post. Jpeg temperatures can also be adjusted in ACR. Raw is highly recommended for night photos. See here and here. Clive
