Cool car. 👍👍 My father had a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 "hardtop^ that he bought used in about 1960. Thanks. When I was a kid and up into the mid-eighties, they were as common as hair; and now, I guess on account of them being so "everywhere" that nobody thought to preserve the one they had, they are a rare sight indeed.
It's like the wooden "Coke" cases and the wonderful metal-wire milk crates that were both so handy for so many things; I had dozens of both and now I don't have a single one of either and am forevermore finding uses where I sure would like to have one as they would be the best thing for the job.
I grew up in a filling station and we had tens of thousands of the wooden soft-drink cases in every brand and color imaginable; --- we kept them stacked outside behind the building; and now, I see them at swap meets, flea markets, and antique stores selling for $20 and more, --- a lot more if they have the little individual sections for single bottles to stand in.

My father had a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 "hardtop^ The many car styles and descriptions of the good old days can be confusing and overwhelming even to someone well-versed in the "lingo".
For years, I thought a "Hardtop" was anything that wasn't a convertible; and, I thought anything with four doors was a Sedan and anything with only two doors was a Coupe; man, was I ever naive back then.
For those "not in the know", a car that is not a Hardtop is a "Post", whether it be two- or four-door; a "Post" car has a reinforcing "post" behind the front door, from floorboard to roof; when you roll all the windows down, the post is still there, dividing the window openings.
A "Hardtop" car has no post; thus, both the floorboard and the roof must be reinforced and much stronger to make up for the lacking "bracing" integrity of the post; the metal skin of the top must be much thicker, therefore the name "Hardtop".
On a Hardtop car, when you roll all the windows down, it is one long unobstructed opening from wing vent to the rear pillar.By the way, a car or truck that does not have wing vents in the doors is just not Cool --- in more ways than one; --- I hate to drive a truck that doesn't have wing vents. To my eye, a Hardtop is just ever so much COOLER and more stylish than a Post.
On cars of the same make/model, compared to the Hardtop version, the Post version just looks like you are riding in the cheap seats.

A "Hardtop" car has no post; I thought it had no post but suspect it was a 4-door like this. It was ~ 64 years ago so I am not sure. I saw one driving around the nearby city a few years ago. Very sleek cars.
