Can anyone please tell me if Elements 6 works in Yosemite? Adobe tells me no (but they want me to buy 13) but I've seen sites saying yes. When I try to launch it, I get a message saying there's an issue with the License, which could be Adobe's way of pushing me to buy 13, I just don't know any more.
Thanks!

Hi prouss, welcome to PSE&M!
First of all, a disclaimer. I am not a Mac user. However, until a Mac user comes along to give you expert advice . . .
Barbara Brundage, Mac/Elements guru and author of The Missing Manual, posted this on her blog concerning earlier versions of Elements and Yosemite.
Source: Yosemite and PSE, Updated
She also has this advice for those upgrading to Yosemite.

As to the license issue -- It is not Adobe pushing you to purchase Elements 13. License issues have been widely documented. So much so that Adobe has created this tool.

Thanks for replying so quickly.
First, I've read Barbara's posts and only wish I'd seen them before I upgraded to Yosemite! They're the reason I haven't just given up and bought Elements 13, since it seems that 6 can be made to work in Yosemite. I've deleted all the Elements preference files I can find (some of the ones she lists don't seem to be there any more in Yosemite, whereas I see them all in the Mac I still have running Mavericks), repaired permissions etc, but still Elements won't open. (Which isn't surprising I suppose given the license issue).
Second, thank you for the link to the License Repair Tool (which Adobe failed to tell me about!), but unfortunately the app crashes every time I run it (in both Mavericks and Yosemite). I've tried redownloading but same result. Any suggestions?
Do you know of anywhere I can download Elements 6 again? Adobe doesn't seem to offer it on their site any more and I think I must have deleted the last one I downloaded in the mistaken belief I could get it any time from Adobe.

Did you purchase Elements 6 directly from Adobe? If so, just log in to your account and make a new download -- Sign in>Manage Account>Plans & Products>Order History. Click on your order number. This will open up a page with the download link.
It has been my experience that, when you purchase Elements directly from Adobe, you can always go back and re-download it. Adobe says that your downloads will be available for three years after the date of purchase. This has not been my experience. As of this writing, all my downloads (going back to Elements 7) are still available in my Adobe account.
Adobe has provisions in place to make replacement installers available. Unfortunately, they don't seem to include Elements 6. The earliest version listed is 7.

It's been so long (2008!) I'm not sure if I purchased it directly from them or just registered it with them and subsequently downloaded it when I got a new Mac. In any case, there's nothing showing as available to download.
I'm going to try calling tomorrow to see if they can help with the License Recover tool. If not it doesn't seem there's anything I can do.

hi,
I had PSE 6 running right through to Yosemite.
At that point camera plug-ins that kept 6 alive though all earlier iterations would not work any more. Not helped by the changes to the Yosemite file system either. It got quite complicated, plus 6 became quite unstable.
It was time for PSE 13.
hope that helps.
