Greetings to all - figured I should "introduce" myself as I haven't done that on here yet. I was in the old village for a long, long time - sometimes active, sometimes not so much. I am seriously into National Parks of the United States having visited 55 of the 59. I will be visiting Hawaii Volcanos and American Samoa this Fall. And when I say visit - I mean spending at least a day (usually more) in each of the parks (including Gates of the Arctic and Kobuk Valley!) I hope to finish the adventure next year to co-incide with the 100th anniversary of the National Park system. I actively use Lightroom 6, On1 Perfect Photo Suite 9.5 and Elements 13. I usually print my own photos at home using my Epson Photo R1900 - prints up to 13X19. My Mac Pro Tower has 4 hard drives in it and I'm running off an OWC Mercury Accelsior E2 PCI Express SSD. I recently retired from the Post Office and retirement is excellent and getting better. More free time to learn and use my camera (Nikon D7100) and of course the ins and outs of all the great photo software. Best wishes to all in your search for the "perfect photo"! ~bruce.

Glad you joined us here at PSE&M, Bruce! I'm impressed that you have visited so many of the National Parks! Looks like you four left, and two of those in the works - Which two do you still need to make plans for?

Welcome Bruce! Visiting the parks sounds like a very fun endeavor, and has to be a source of some wonderful pictures.

Yes Tom, there are lots. I have over 25,000 images (not all good) not including the film versions that I shot before going digital. Attached is a photo of a bear at Katmai National Park in Alaska from last year.

G'day Bruce - sounds like you have a great hobby in exploring all of the national parks. I will be looking forward to seeing some more of your images on PSE&M!

I live near Gateway National Park. Not that famous, I wondered if you had been there? But see you've already crossed that off your list.....
Good luck on your quest. I am a late starter on the National Parks having only been to Zion and Monument Valley......tried for Olympia NP but that coincided with the government shutdown!
Sydney had a good idea....would love to see some of your pix.....off to see if you have set up a gallery here.

Just to clear up some confusion that people have about the National Parks of the United States. There are a total of 408 units that the National Park Service is responsible for. Of those there are 59 National Parks. The entire system incorporates Military Parks, National Monuments, Historic Sites, Wild Rivers, National Preserves, Memorials, Recreation Areas, Lakeshores, National Parks, etc. So in the post by hmca, Gateway is part of the National Park system as a National Recreation Area - which is found in New York/New Jersey and is not part of the "59". Zion is one of the 59 National Parks and is a wonder. It is where the Junior Ranger program started. Monument Valley on the other hand is not part of the National Park system. It is actually a Navajo Tribal Park.I have not figured out how many of the 408 that I have been to. I have not set up a gallery here. I would be hard-pressed to even limit myself to one photo from each of the Parks that I have been to. (except for Hot Springs National Park - which in my opinion should only be an historic site at most). I always get asked what my favorite park is - it has to be Yosemite - nothing beats driving through the Wawona Tunnel and the view down the valley. 2nd favorite - Olympic. ~bruce.

Thanks, Bruce for clearing things up. I'm obviously not up on my National Parks although I am a member of the NPCA. With your reminder I remember that Monument Valley is a Tribal Park.

In looking back at what I wrote - I apologize if I was being too "preachy". ~bruce.

Not at all, Bruce! You were just sharing more info....that's what this site is all about! And if you do ever go to Gateway National Park.....give a holler......although, in all honesty it certainly isn't worth a special trip IMHO.

This is so interesting. 59, wow! Here in the UK we only have 15 national parks, definitely more doable! I have visited at least nine of them, but because of the small size of our country, have been back to some of them again & again! Probably not as spectacular as yours either, but wonderful places to visit all the same.

Fantastic information. Made me "look into" the National parks of Norway. It seems we have 44 of them, and we are a very little country.
