I use PSE 7 and windows 7. For some reason when I click on the button to open styles, nothing happens. There are no styles. The other buttons work fine. Is there a way to fix this without re-installing the program?

Hi notsosavvy,
We could try deleting the MediaDatabase.db3 file, the file that "caters" to the Effects panel.
1. Set your folder options to show hidden files and folders.
windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files#show-hidden-files=windows-7
2. Navigate the path below and delete the MediaDatabase.db3 file.
C:\ ProgramData\ Adobe\ Photoshop Elements\ 7.0\ Locale\ en_US (or your locale)\ MediaDatabase.db3
3. Launch Elements. The program will rebuild and update the MediaDatabase.db3 file. Be patient; this process may take a few minutes.
4. Check if the Layer Styles are back. Hopefully they will be there.
NOTE: If deleting the MediaDatabase file doesn't solve the problem, try this.
1. Go back and delete the MediaDatabase file again.
2. Navigate this path and delete the ThumbDatabase.db3 file.
C:\ ProgramData\ Adobe\ Photoshop Elements\ 7.0\ ThumbDatabase.db3
