I recently downloaded and installed Luminance HDR.
Somehow, in the process, I got a little bonus feature that I DID NOT WANT; it has went through my drives and converted ALL of my many hundreds of Canon CR2 RAW files and DNG RAW files into Luminance HDR files.
Also, I just loaded about 100 Canon CR2 RAW files from my memory-card reader via my DIM (Digital Image Mover); it instantly converted these Canon files into Luminance HDR files.
How can I stop this feature; it is just doing it of it's own accord ?
Thanks for reading.

My supposition is that your files are not converted in any way; the description of the file type in the Explorer may be wrong because your files extensions, .CR2 and .DNG are linked to another software like 'Luminance HDR (formerly qtpfsgui) so that the explorer displays a wrong translation of the extension into file type description. Have you recently installes such 'HDR' programs?

michelb, on further investigation, I believe you are right about the files not being converted; however, the identifying thumbnails and "hover-over" information has been changed.
As things are now, regardless of whether a file is CR2, DNG, and I suspect TIFF, the identifying thumbnails now display as "Luminance HDR" and the only way I can determine what the actual file type is is to right-click and select "properties", at which I can then see whether it is a .CR2, .dng, or what-have-you.
I really like this Luminance HDR program, but I do not like how it has re-identified all of my files.
Thanks.

A wild guess: maybe in this specific program under a menu item such as "Options" or "Preferences" there would be an option you could deselect that says something like "Make this program the default program for such and such file type?

Thank you for relating that possibility as I probably never would have thought of that; I will most definitely be checking that out. Thanks.

Mystery SOLVED !
When I installed the Luminance HDR program, it took the liberty of establishing itself as my default RAW image handler.
To return things to their former state, I selected a random CR2 file, left-clicked/high-lighted it, and chose "open" from the top menu bar, at which point a drop-down menu gave me four choices to open the file, plus an option to select a new default.
I won't go into all the particulars; I chose my original Windows Live Photo Gallery as the default for my CR2 and DNG files and now everything is back to normal which is usually best regardless of what is concerned.
Thanks, everyone, for enlightening my feeble mind in it's moment of crisis.
