tourerjim,
I am not sure I understand the problem. Would you please give us more details?
- Can you see the PSD thumbnails at all? Are they of a generic type? Preview of the files are not being generated? - Are you on a PC or on a Mac?

Would you please give us more information? Your answers will determine the course of the troubleshooting.
- Are you on a PC or on a Mac?
- If you are on a PC, is this happening when you look at an image in Windows Explorer, for example, in the Pictures library?
- When did this problem begin?

Windows does not automatically generate preview thumbnails for PSD files. If you were able to see such preview thumbnails, you had to have installed a Codec. Maybe the Codec got corrupted. Do you remember what Codec you were using? Maybe just uninstalling/reinstalling it will do the trick.

I may be wrong but I can't see how this update would affect the generation of PSD preview thumbnails. This is not an Elements issue; this is a Windows-related one. Windows cannot generate PSD preview thumbnails; you need to install a Codec. I just don't understand how you could have been able to see such preview thumbnails before if you didn't have a Codec installed. Did you check the Control Panel? Did you get a new computer? If so, this may explain the problem. This Codec doesn't come with Windows.
I myself use FastPictureViewer Codec Pack. There is also a free Codec -- SageThumbs.
Just to make sure we are on the same wavelength. What is your answer for this question posted earlier in this thread? -- "If you are on a PC, is this happening when you look at an image in Windows Explorer, for example, in the Pictures library?"

I've been using pse for many years & always been able to view psd thumbnail images so if i opened the window in pse edit i've aways been able to see thumbnail & a preview image so never checked to see which codec software i had on laptop or with previous laptops so im really unsure.

Sepiana is right. This is a Windows problem, Elements uses the Explorer for some functions like selecting files to open. If you have no codec to display the psd files, those won't show neither in Elements nor in the Explorer outside of Elements. What has changed in your setup (Win or Elements versions) is an academic discussion: you'll have to get the codecs, and the links given by Sepiana are now widely used.
