I have PSE 9 and there are 2 things about it that I just absolutely hate:
1) If you have your images free-floating and you get one of them too close to the top of the image editing area, Elements grabs it, makes it into a tab, and expands it so it fills the whole editing window and covers up any other images that are open. That happens to me over and over again.
2) If you have more than one image open and you want to print the one you're working on, you have to tell Elements which one you want to print. It seems totally logical to me that I'd want to print the one I'm working on, NOT one I was working on before, but somebody at Adobe obviously didn't see it that way. And if I'm editing one photo and have others in the closed project bin, I have to open the bin and see which one is outlined in blue. If it's not the one I'm actually working on, I have to click the one I want to print, and then print.
Over time, both of these things create the need for many unnecessary mouse clicks. So here's my question: I'm thinking of upgrading to a newer version but not if it contains these two annoying characteristics. Can anyone tell me if these things have carried over into all the newer versions? Thanks

Hi ncjohn, welcome to PSE&M!
I have Elements 10 through Elements 14. I don't recall encountering what you describe.
I would strongly sugest you download a free 30-day trial of Elements 14 and test the waters. Then, you will be able to make an informed decision based on your experience.
Here is the link you need -- www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements/features.html?PID=3747368.
Scroll down the page to . . . "Still deciding? Try out Photoshop Elements free for 30 days".

The solution to #1 is under Window in the editor. You probably want cascade or tile. You will need to play around with the different presentations to see which one meets your needs best.
#2 has driven me crazy also. In PSE 14 when I go to print, everything I have in the Photo Bin shows up to be printed. I just remove what I don't want. I rarely have more than one photo in editor and I don't print enough to get too hyper over it so maybe someone else has a solution.

I've been frustrated by #2 as well (I'm on PSE13), but like Sue I don't print enough from PSE to be bothered by it.

Thanks For the first problem, verify in the Edit >> Preferences menu if you have checked to option to 'dock' floating windows in the General tab. (Not sure about 'dock', I am on a French version. For the second one, I don't have the problem because I generally print from the organizer. The problem still exists with the editor, and the solution is quite simple: the editor always prints the opened file in the order shown in the photo bin. Just drag and drop your target file to the left of the photo bin, in the first position.

Elements prints the one that has a blue box around it, and that's often NOT the one that's on the left; I haven't been able to figure out how it decides which one to put the box around. Regardless, you miss my point: I don't want to have to go to the Project Bin in order to print. That's wasted time and effort. If I'm going to do what you suggest, it would be easier to just click on the one I want to print. That puts the blue box on it and then it will print.

Okay, folks, you've answered my question about the printing problem: It's still there in all versions. Thanks for your help.

That may explain the difference. I'll have to do my home work and test again with the different version I have still installed (6, 10...) I have no such problem with recent versions.

SOLUTION:
How to use the Photo Bin to pick image(s) to print. Only needed when there are multiple images loaded in the editor.
Key Point: Which images show up in the Print Dialog is decided by which images in the Photo Bin have a thin White Border around them. Note: If no images are marked to print in the Photo Bin all images will show up in the Print Dialog.
To print multiple images: In the Photo Bin place a thin White Border around the image(s) you want to print. Use Ctrl + Click(PC) on each image you want to print - a thin white border will surround each image selected. Remove unwanted white borders on images by using Ctrl + Click.
To print only one image out of many. Check the Photo Bin to make sure the image you want is the only one highlighted. To pick only one image out of many, just Click on the image in the Photo Bin. This removes unwanted white borders on all the other images.
Notes: With only one image loaded in the editor just go directly to the Print Dialog. Ctrl + Click toggles the thin White Border on or off in the Photo Bin. The Blue Border surrounding an image in the Photo Bin only means it's the currently active image. Only one image can have both a blue and white border.
Tested using Elements 12 and 14, on a PC.

Moto, you're telling me how to use the project bin to print. If you'll read my original post, you'll see that's exactly what I'm trying to AVOID! I don't WANT to have to go to the project bin, I want to print the photo I'm actually working on!

Moto, you're telling me how to use the project bin to print. If you'll read my original post, you'll see that's exactly what I'm trying to AVOID! I don't WANT to have to go to the project bin, I want to print the photo I'm actually working on How to use the Photo Bin to pick image(s) to print. The only way to avoid using the Photo Bin for printing is to have only one image loaded in the Editor. Then you can go directly to Print Dialog and the lone image would be the only image showing in the Print Dialog. Unfortunately that's the way that Adobe programmed Elements. Sorry, I don't have the answer to your issue. The reason I posted "How to use the Photo Bin to pick image(s) to print" was for people, myself included, who were frustrated never knowing what images would show up in the Print Dialog. I took the time to figure it out and wanted to share with the community.
