My wife and I were in Colonial Williamsburg where they have restarted doing candle demonstrations. Below is an image I took of the lady pouring the melted wax into the molds. Any suggestions and/or comments? preview.ibb.co/mtXByv/pouring_wax.jpg

Just a couple thoughts - for what it's worth . . If the colors were pleasing maybe add them back in? If you prefer monochrome then maybe tone it more towards sepia to match the era? I think the viewers focus is currently on the top of the container and I'm guessing that's not where you want it.

I had thought I had taken a pretty good photo. But based on your comments, I see that I was totally wrong. Thanks for the insights.

I had thought I had taken a pretty good photo. But based on your comments, I see that I was totally wrong. I wouldn't be too harsh on yourself - photography is a very subjective subject. What are you trying to convey to your audience? Is it the candle making process, including the molds and wicks? Do you want the emphasis to be on the container with the wax buildup? Is the hand holding the container and pouring your main focus?

I don't think you are wrong at all. I like the black & white and to me it looks like it would be the type of photo used in a brochure etc.

I don't do Black and White images, but I definitely liked your image. I like the look of the container, hand, foreground and the blurred background combination. I'm looking forward to more B&W images from you.

Is the hand holding the container and pouring your main focus? It's the total photo that is causing the problem as can be shown by your "trying to convey to your audience". Too many parts of the whole can cause one to be confused as to what is the intention. I will continue to work on it at my leisure - I have flipped it which changes the dynamics of the lines putting the left to right viewing a little easier on the eyes. When i get done "playing" I might repost another. ~bruce.
