PSE 14, Win 7, 64-bit : Normally I use Ctrl-I to pass a photo from the Org to the Ed. It stopped working several day ago. (So have the choices to do it via the menu bar and by right click.) A real time waster to have to open each photo separately in the Editor. Help!

Harvey,
What happens exactly?
- The Editor won't launch at all. - The Editor will launch but without the image. - Error message/No error message.
Thanks!

Sepiana,
Thnaks for getting back to me.
Let me add that I'm using PSE 14.1.
I always start the Organizer and the Editor together. Then I select photo(s) I want to work in the Org and use Ctrl-I to pass them to the Ed. Typically the focus jumps to the Ed with the photos and I'm good to go.
What is currently happening: I select the photo(s) to work in the Org, press Ctrl-I, the cursor turns briefly or I may get the preparing photos window, the normal cursor (arrowhead) returns, and the focus stays in the Organizer. When I switch over to the Ed, there is no photo open to work on. So, pressing Ctrl-I does not generate an error msg -- after the brief pause to prepare photos for the Ed, nothing has changed.
I'm hopeful that is clearer.

Hi Harvey,
Thanks for the additional information! I am not really good at troubleshooting the Organizer but let's try.
Normally I use Ctrl-I to pass a photo from the Org to the Ed. It stopped working several day ago. (So have the choices to do it via the menu bar and by right click.)
I may be on the wrong track here but this looks like the typical situation of the Organizer "misbehaving". The culprit is usually a corrupted/damaged Preferences file. Restoring this file to its default settings should take care of the problem.
In the Organizer, go to Edit>Preferences>General and click on the Restore Default Settings button at the bottom of the Preferences dialog. Then, try sending a photo to the Editor to see if the problem has been solved.

Sepiana,
Here's an update: Before even seeing your email, I had deleted the Preferences file in order to force a reset. I then restarted PSE Organizer picked a photo and pressed Ctrl-I. PSE loaded the Editor and there was my photo! I closed the photo, switched back to the Org, reselected the photo and pressed Ctrl-I. Nothing happened! That is, I was not automatically switched to the Ed with the photo displayed. So, I started experimenting. What I learned: if the Ed is not already open, Ctrl-I works as normal, forcing the loading of the Ed and passing the selected photo(s) to it. If the Org is already loaded, Ctrl-I has no effect on the selected photo's). As I mentioned in my first post, Ctrl-I used to pass photos to Ed, whether or not it was loaded.
Help!

Hi Harvey,
Thanks for posting back! I am baffled. This seems to indicate it was not a corrupted Preferences file. However, I am not sure what is causing this problem. Let's try some other troubleshooting steps. I believe in leaving no stone unturned when doing troubleshooting. Just follow one procedure at a time and immediately check if the problem got solved.
- Go to Edit>Preferences>Media-Analysis. Uncheck those two boxes. (Let's make sure the Auto-Analyzer is not slowing things down.)
- Launch Elements as an administrator by right-clicking on the desktop shortcut and selecting "Run as administrator". If the problem got solved, close Elements and open it again but this time do it as a standard user.
NOTE: Based on my own experience, the second procedure can solve many glitches which pop up in Elements (at least in the Editor).

I'm happy (and annoyed) to report the problem of Ctrl-I not working has gone away! It now works as it always has. I'm not aware of having made any changes that could explain this (I dealt with the Printer Spooler service not starting and updated a video driver) . New phase of the moon?

Harvey,
Way to go! Glad the problem has gone away.
This is not my area of expertise but I am going out on a limb here and leaning towards the video driver you mentioned. You could launch the Editor from the Organizer but your image was not opening in the Editor (from the Organizer).
Thanks for posting back! This information will benefit others who may encounter the same problem.
