How do I create a new thread, post or just plain start a topic with a new question for advice without jumping in to a quick reply on someones topic? Thanks I know I'm missing something simple.

Go to main menu pick a board you want to post in that relates to your question on the right side you will see start new thread on the red banner (the same place you see reply when making a quick reply) click on it and start your thread.

...the red banner at the top of the screen - when you choose a category instead of a topic, that red banner will have 'create thread' instead of 'reply'

I'm lost. I can't find category on the red banner. Just home, members, latest gallery posts, etc. Sorry

Dave,
Go to "Home" on the red banner at the top of the forum, this will take you to the page with all the boards. Pick the board that best fits your query and then on the right hand side you should see a "Create Thread" button.
Click on this and off you go.
