When I launch PSE 15 I am told that an update to ACR 9.8 is available. However, when I click to update (now or later, no choice to ignore) the adobe update manager launches but fails very quickly. The error log contains this message:
I finally resorted to a full uninstall/install of PSE 15 to no avail. I left a help request on the adobe forums, but don't really expect anything will come of that.
Any ideas about how to either successfully install ACR 9.8 or just disable to mandatory update attempt will be greatly appreciated!

Tom, I found this answer in the adobe forums which is related to the same issue/error number as yours. Hopefully it will help to resolve the problem with the acr update you are having: forums.adobe.com/thread/1827037

Sydney , thank you so very much for taking the time to locate that thread. The fix worked like a charm! I was hoping it would also fix the update problem with PSE 13, but no such luck; I am getting this error message when I try to update it:

I was hoping it would also fix the update problem with PSE 13, but no such luck; I am getting this error message when I try to update it: Adobe Photoshop Elements 13.1 update Installation failed. Error Code: U44M1P7
These are two different problems (ACR Update and Elements Update) and, therefore, two different error codes. So much so, that Adobe has separate provisions to handle each error code. You can read more about it in this thread on the Photoshop Elements Editor board.

Yes, they are different problems, but the solution offered by Adobe is the same for both; rename the appdata file! linkI will try the uninstall/install suggestion; maybe I'll get lucky!

And the last resort? If you can live without the Elements 13.1 update, go to Help>Updates>Preferences>Only show updates for the following products> . . . and turn off the relevant Elements 13 box(es).
