Question:
Some tutorials tell you to apply a filter and, then, do Edit>Fade>[name of the filter] to lessen its effect. I can’t find this command in Elements. Is there a workaround?
Answer:
I believe these tutorials are written for Photoshop. This command enables you to reduce the effects of the filter if you think they are too strong. It generates a dialog box in which you enter a percentage in the Opacity field and/or change the blending mode to let Photoshop know how to reduce the effects of the filter you have just applied. If you are using Elements, apply the filter to a duplicate layer and reduce the opacity of this layer until it blends in with the layer underneath and yields the results you have in mind. You can also change this layer’s blending mode if necessary.

That's a great work around. Thanks for the suggestion.

Michel, thanks so much! I had all but forgotten about Elements+ (and I use it myself).
