Like Andy last week, this was a thin week for uploads. And I know I haven't had the time to get out with a camera for quite a while (or even log onto here to be honest) so I guess it just takes a few of us to have periods like that to have an effect. But hopefully we'll all be back and posting again soon. But nevertheless, there is still real and diverse quality on show. Here are my picks of the bunch:
Andy: Heading For Home

The pilot heading for safety out of the cruel sea. I can feel his need to hurry home with the wake showing he is moving at pace; even if it just for a nice cup of tea and to catch something on the telly. Great composition with the boat small in the frame to give the impression of the wide ocean and lovely misty background adding atmosphere.

Love the juxtaposition of square windows and diagonal shadows. And then the added interest of the man cleaning the windows stops it being a pure abstract study and ensures it remains a landscape. I particularly like how he is unknowingly doing something mundane yet it results in an artistic image. And he will never know, but such is the power of photography. Or maybe I'm just over thinking today...

This just makes me laugh. Sometimes I can get a bit pretentious with my comments (see above), but I also delight in the unexpected intrusion of real life, particularly when they perfectly capture the expressions of the subject. And this does just that. The look of surprise on Matthew's face and the look of calm yet intent on the giraffe moving in for the kill (aka the carrot).
But my Image of the Week is:

I love the composition with the subject standing proud and confident, but curious. Lovely positioning in the frame - noting the prime focus (the head) is slightly outside of the 'thirds' position, but this enables the grasses to come to a natural end over on the left hand side which balances it beautifully. A great example of when to follow the rules but then adjust them slightly.
Congratulations to all, and see you next week.
