And a big thank you to bailey for suggesting this. I am certainly learning more by reading the comments of you experts.

no problem whippet I am very happy to see you and others taking part and enjoying it. So far this thread is going as I had envisaged when I first brought up the idea. Hopefully others will post their choices as well ( I see only 1 admin/moderator (hmca) has posted her choices so far ). But one advantage of this system is that members can come at any time in the future and post their thoughts.

I have two that I like and my reason is that these two images really exemplify the core of what this forum is for. I joined this forum to learn how to use pse, with all it’s “artsy” features. I use Lightroom for developing photos but pse for the fun stuff. So off my soapbox 😉. I like Helen’s cherry blossoms- would make a very pretty card. And jackscrap’s sunflower is amazing. Great job you two!!

As Member's Choice week winds down, I'd like to thank all of our members who submitted an image and /or took the time to comment. A few of our members saw the similarities between this and the old
EV where members readily had the opportunity to comment on gallery images. I am very pleased with the results and am glad we went forward with Bailey's suggestion.

Well, it's now Sunday (Melb. Australia) and for me the inaugural "Members' Choice" has gone exceedingly well so far.
Thank you again to hmca for pushing this idea to the admins for me and for getting it up and running.
I hope more members come back to this thread over time and post their choices. I also hope "Members' Choice" becomes a weekly feature, or at least replaces the Poll Vote, but time will tell.
In the mean time, in the hope there will be another "Members' Choice", I would like to suggest (just my 2c worth) how I think this thread could be made a little more user friendly. I found it a little cumbersome to scroll up and down the 20 submitted images to make my final choices. Imho a more user friendly layout would be to have smaller thumbnails laid out side by side and in rows with the option to click a thumbnail to view the enlargement.

Just to be clear, Members' Choice will be an added feature for IOW. There are no plans to replace the poll and most weeks will be devoted to images selected from our pool of judges.

ok, no problem hmca It's just that the way I see it, the Members Choice format combines the single judge format and the poll vote format into one.1. The current pool of "judges" can still post their choices in the Members Choice format, as I see some have in this thread. So instead of getting just one member's choice and their reasons in a single judge IOW week, members have the benefit of seeing multiple member's choices and their reasons in a members choice week. I see that as a clear and overwhelming benefit over a single judge IOW week as evidenced by whippet's comment earlier this thread. ... I am certainly learning more by reading the comments of you experts. Members in a similar situation as whippet would clearly potentially learn more in a Members Choice format compared to a Single Judge or Poll Vote format. 2. For members who prefer anonymous voting polls they have the option to, albeit manually, tally the votes for each image from the choices posted in the Members Choice format.
I suppose another option could be to run a poll to see which of the 3 formats the members prefer. A low response rate to the poll would suggest that members don't care, in which case you could make any of the 3 formats the main one. If the poll shows a clear preference from the members for one format then it's a no brainer to make it the main format. So as always, just some food for thought and I rest my case Your Honour

I think I am the only one in my situation, bailey. At least, of members who actively participate.

All the submissions are excellent. We have a very talented group of folks on this forum. It's difficult to choose only 3 but here goes:
1. Stilt Walker by PeteB - The composition is perfect, and I like how the subjects are interacting with each other. It's a great street scene, and there's a lot to look at without being too busy. The colors are vivid but not overly saturated. The lighting and enhanced highlights draw the viewer into the scene. The mild grunge effect enhances the mood of the street. Good work Pete.
2. The Worker by hmca - This photo is absolutely striking. The simplicity of the composition in combination with black and white effect are wonderfully executed. I also like what appears to be a slight sketch-like effect which also enhances the simplicity and adds to the contrast. Awesome job Helen.
3. Slug on the Prowl by alexr - I love macro nature photography with an artist feel. In other words, the photo is not merely a scientific depiction of something. This photo depicts the slug in its own little world. The colors and lighting draw the viewer into the world of the slug. The blurred, dark background make the slug and the moss stand out. Very nicely done alexr.
