Administrator's Note: This discussion has been moved from another thread (on the upcoming Windows 10 update).I am running a 6-year-old ASUS (i7, 16GB RAM ...stuff like that) and wonder how much longer it will run. It has always operated reasonably well, but sometimes acts up .. like this afternoon. But it does not seem overly less cumbersome than a few years ago. There is too much junk in it and it should be cleaned up. PSE 2018 is slow to start up...20 seconds or more. Once upon a time it was 3 or 4 seconds.

I have been running PSE and Premiere Elements for a few years now quite happily on my desktop with 16GB RAM and Intel Core-i7 CPU. The quality and amount of dedicated memory on your video card can also significantly affect performance of PSE and PRE as well.

I am geeky, but was lazy. A few months ago I finally gave in and replaced my i7-960 (3.2 Ghz) HP tower computer. At first glance it met all the requirements to run On1 PR, but after some research I discovered that CPU speed is not as important as it seems. My replacement tower is an i5-8500 (3.0 Ghz) which appears to be slower just looking at the cpu speed. When I finished installing Win 10 and my required software it seemed to me that this new pc was not any faster nor slower than my old one. The speed difference came when running On1 PR - significantly faster and more stable. Further research revealed that most of the improvement was due to the much newer chip set.
I suspect that your cpu model is about the same age as my i7-960 - it will run quite a long time, but will apparently slow down due to the newer software designs. I used free Ccleaner often (and still do) to empty junk and keep the registry streamlined.

My i7 with 8GB of RAM is going on 8 years old now and is still running fine. It's a bit slower because there's so much cr... er, stuff on it, but I did get a new graphics card about a year ago and that certainly helped.

I built a high end system about 7 years ago: i7-3770, 32Gb of RAM, dedicated video card (which is newer), SSD boot drive. I did a complete wipe and reinstall of Win10 about 3 months ago. It still works very well.
