These "just appeared". They were not there on 4/7/20. No software update in the interim.
Anyone know what they are?
Well now, look at these two screen shots of the catalog files. and Between those two screen shots I edited a file and saved it. Then closed and opened PSE. The main catalog did not change size.
It seems that all my changes are being updated in pse16db-wal !
I checked with Repair Catalog - it found no errors. Should I "Repair Anyway"? What about Optimize Catalog?
One Adobe troubleshooting article recommended Optimize, Repair, re-index visual similarity in that order, clear thumbnail cache - in that order.

These are database files for PSE2018. Click the link below for more information on a previous thread in this forum.

Those files have been introduced in recent versions of the sqlite database. That has nothing to do with the organizer or Lightroom or any software which uses the sqlite database engine. The catalog database now has those 'sidecar' files which I think are there to insure database integrity. Better ignore them and don't play with them. I don't think that 'repair' will change anything, but 'optimize' could. EDIT: www.file-extension.org/fr/associations/sqliteI'll come back if I find more...

Thanks, I found that thread. But it did not talk about the extensions I asked about: -shm and -wal It seemed more concerned with the DB (and version) being '16' when the product marketing name is '2018'

I just found it very strange (worrisome, actually) that they appeared just about the same time as I had had funny things happen when I had done a 'move' of files from one organizer folder to another. Take a look at my yesterday post in the Editor thread - that is where the problem manifested, though it appears that the real problem was with the organizer.
Do let me know if you discover anything else.
Hmmm... I have looked inside the regular sqlite catalog database before. Maybe I'll make a copy of these and take a peek inside to see if I can make sense of what is there. But as you said, I have no intention of messing with them.

Well, they are gone. I shut PSE down last night with these files present: This morning I opened PSE and did another Optimize and got this: So I'll sleep better now (I guess). Thanks, all. -ceej
