Hello all,
I've found this forum very helpful on a few occasions when I've got a bit confused with Elements, thank you. I have hit a brick wall today so I have registered to ask for some help if I may.
My name's Elaine, I'm 53 and live in Essex in the UK. Photography is my favourite hobby but I'd never pursued it seriously in the past. However, I had prior notice of being made redundant from my job in 2014/15 and along with that came opportunities to retrain, learn a new skill, etc. So I went down the track of getting myself some 'proper' photography tuition which has helped me improve a huge amount, from getting off Auto mode, to using much more of the camera capabilities that I never had a clue about.
I've always had a camera, in one form or another and was using a Sony Cybershot that my husband had bought me for my 50th but it soon became clear that it wasn't doing what I wanted it to, not quick enough to focus, change ISO, aperture, etc. So I treated myself to a Canon EOS 700D and have not looked back. Once the 'using the camera' was coming on leaps and bounds, I then started to learn the editing part but was only using the software supplied with the camera. So in 2018, along with a new laptop, I purchased Elements 18 and have been using that since. My knowledge is limited to the basics; cropping, adjusting light, saturation, contrast. I've yet to venture into the dark world of layers, masking and all that technical stuff
I completed an Open University course last year and was quite surprised I did pretty well. I'm registered now on another course but it's taking me time to get started with that one, other jobs keep getting in my way, yes that's an excuse. I love to be outside and my favourite subjects are wildlife and nature. We have lots of visitors to our garden and I can happily waste an afternoon photographing the birds, butterflies or flowers.
So, hello, nice to meet you. I look forward to chatting and joining in if I can offer any help. I do have a question about adjusting colour that I would like to ask but I will post that in another thread. I have searched for help about it on the forums and elsewhere but I can't find anything specific.
Kind regards
Elaine
