This is my first try at setting a B&W theme and it started out as a comment by Alex on setting an earlier theme that images that look better in mono than in colour are mostly about texture. I'd also been struck by the great variety in wood textures in trees, furniture, lumber and anything else primarily made of wood. So that's the B&W theme for the month - Wood Texture. If you need inspiration here's an Unsplash link to a good collection of Wood Texture images - most in colour but many would work well, if not better, in mono: unsplash.com/s/photos/wood-texture . Here are a couple I've converted recently - first is the graffiti caused by the emerald ash borer that has laid low many ashes here and the second is the bark of an American Sycamore. Well I only had to go as far as the dining room to come up with these........but I know I have some interesting tree textures in the archives as well.    They were all converted in LR. |

Here are a couple of shots from 2019 coverted to B&W with Nik Silver Efex Pro 2. I think they are both pine trees but I am not an expert. The first is a weathered stump in the forest and the second is a close up of the bark from a living tree. Kind regards Chris   |

Our wooden toad (Nema) had been an objet d'kitsch in my wife's family for years, until we were able to adopt him. For the last twenty-five or so years he's been hanging out with us. His wooden lineage is unknown, but flies think twice about coming in. ;-) Converted to b/w in Camera Raw and dodged/burned in Photoshop. Thanks again for the theme Tony.  |

That’s a splendid toad Bill. I particularly like the way the angle and lighting with some dodging and burning give a 3D look to the warts on the toads back.

I have this block of wood that I use for various things. It has a nice texture, but wouldn't make a very interesting photograph. This morning while eating breakfast the idea occurred to me that I might be able to make it look like a piece of "toast". I started with my phone (1st. picture). Then got out my camera and took the 2nd one but needed a high ISO. What I should have done was get out the tripod, but.........   |

"Darn, I should get the tripod for this." But no. Love high ISO!  "I have this block of wood that I use for various things." Intrigued! |
