Are the older versions of Elements, e.g E7, 8, etc., able to process RAW images for newer cameras, such as Nikon Coolpix P950?

Hi gfmucci, welcome to PSE&M! Adobe introduced support for the Nikon CoolPix P950 with ACR 12.2 (which is not compatible with earlier PSE versions). You need at least PSE 2020 (shipped with ACR 11.3). Cameras supported by Camera Raw
However, you don't have to upgrade to PSE 2020. You can convert your camera's Raw files to the non-proprietary DNG format using Adobe's free DNG Converter. Once your Raw files have been converted to DNG, they should open in the Raw Converter in PSE 7. Adobe DNG Converter 13.0 (Windows)

Thanks. I'm considering upgrading to Elements 2021 - the workflow for RAW would be a bit simpler. But not sure about my computer system performance - I posted on a separate thread.
My system is AMD A10-7700K Radeon R7, 10 Compute Cores 4C+6G 3.40 GHz. I have no idea how that compares with 6th generation.

I downloaded the CameraRaw_13_1.exe file. I clicked on it to install it, but nothing tells me where it installed to. I checked the plugins on Elements 2021, my download folder, and my desktop. Not there. Any hints?

If you got PSE 2021, you will be able to open the Nikon CoolPix P950's Raw files in this version. You won't need the Adobe DNG Converter. PSE 2021 was shipped with ACR 12.3. In November Adobe released ACR 13.0. When you launch PSE 2021, you should get a pop-up saying that this update is available. If you don't get this pop-up, go to Help > Updates. It should be activated (not grayed out) as explained in Help>Updates -- A Change. You can check which ACR update you have by going to Help > About Plug-In > Camera Raw.

Are you running the 30-day trial? I wonder if this is why you can't update to ACR 13.0. I need to do some checking around.
But this won't prevent you from using the RAW Converter to process your camera's Raw files. You should have ACR 12.3; it supports your camera.

Yes, running the 30-day trial. Checking my processor and memory consumption on task manager as I go. I checked around the program and no "RAW converter" showed up. Where do I find it? In earlier version of Elements it was under "filters", right? Do I need an actual RAW image file for it to show up?

OK, Camera RAW has updated in E21. In Photo Editor, then File, and then "Open in Camera RAW."
I got the updated file by downloading CameraRaw_13_1.exe and then going to Adobe Creative Cloud updates, updated that file. It was then recognized by E21 Photo Editor.
I don't know if that sequence was a coincidence - but the bottom line: RAW 13.1 is now on E21.

Thanks for posting back! That's good to know. In Photo Editor, then File, and then "Open in Camera RAW." Adobe made some changes concerning opening Raw files. It's different from the way it was done in PSE 9. File > OpenYou can use this command for a Raw file. The file will automatically open in the Raw Converter. File > Open in Camera RawUse this command to open Non-Raw files in the Raw Converter such as JPEG, PSD, etc.

That does not work for me and it seems that you are alone among the many PSE users who have tried updating manually to 13.1 to be successful. I also have the Creative Cloud with Photoshop and Bridge and the 13.1 version is indeed present for those programs. However, when I open ACR in Elements 2021 it opens with 13.0. Did you try a workaround like this one?

Or Erase me from being "alone among the many PSE users who have...updated to 13.1."
I assumed I installed Camera RAW 13.1 because my download via Creative Cloud indicated that 13.1 was downloaded - but apparently it didn't make its way over to Ele2021. I double checked inside the Editor and 13.0 was still indicated.
Sorry for my confusion.

No problem.
Apart from the support of new cameras, I am not sure which other issues (bugs) have been corrected. Also, you may have to take time to get used to the new interface compared to old versions, the crop tool for instance.
