Last week, I was working on an image, one original layer, one copy and one blank layer which I was using with a watercolor brush to create snowflakes. I would get one set of snowflakes done (there were thousands!) and save (as I always do). On the second or third save Elements would freeze and I could not even use Windows (10) (Ctrl-Alt-Del) to end the application. I had to physically turn my computer on and off. When I went to retrieve the image, if it came in at all, it was one black layer, ....nothing else. I put a note up on the Adobe community site and tried several suggestions (system clean-up; remove/reinstall Elements 2021; update graphic driver directly from graphic site....) and nothing worked. Finally, I removed Elements 2021 and reinstalled Elements 2020. Since then I have had no problems with freezing or with corrupted files. My conclusion is that something is going on with Elements 2021, where it reaches an overload somewhere and freezes the computer completely so it is inoperable. I don't know whether this is a software issue, or perhaps an Adobe Cloud issue, as it seemed as Adobe Cloud was continually working in the background. I don't want Adobe Cloud on my system as I don't like saving to clouds; who can trust them - they eventually rain or snow or spew lightning at you!!! The following are some screenshots I took at the time of the freezing. (I could access other applications, just not Elements which was frozen in time.)

Pat The recent update is a disaster. Grrrr ... The color picker tool does not work properly and has been reported on Adobe Forums here. The cropping tool can't be used since the update. It has frozen and crashed several times. Was okay once or twice and then failed yesterday. Sometimes a crash report pops up but mostly not. Thankfully, I have been able to (Ctrl-Alt-Del) to end the program. You might post this on Adobe Forums. Good luck Clive

All these many problems being reported are a result of the update released Feb 3. Photoshop Elements 2021 update (version 2021.1)I assure you. The Adobe Design team is working on this issue; hopefully another update will be released soon. Each version of Elements is an independent one. If you want, you can keep PSE 2020 installed and still use PSE 2021. Just make sure that the 2021.1 update doesn't get installed. 1. Reinstall PSE 2021 (This will get the original version back, the one before the update.) 2. Immediately after launching PSE 2021, go to Edit>Preferences>Application Updates> Turn on . . . Enable "Remind me Later" for updates. You will still be prompted to update but now you can delay it while waiting for Adobe's solution. This will give you more control over the update process.

Perfect! I didn't realize until Clive's note and yours that there were so many issues. I thought it was just me!
