I still can't use the crop tool...freezes and crashes. Numerous reports submitted. The shortcut keys for "auto image correction" do not work...it does work using the menu. phildc offered a possible solution on the forum, that I've yet to do. Clive

There continue to be assorted issues with PSE 2021 since the February update. Some discussion about this is in Adobe Forums here PSE 2021 color picker not working properly after the Feb 4 update. The color picker issues was resolved. The crop tool discussion is buried inside this topic thread with no apparent solution. phildc offered a solution regarding another update matter which I have yet to do. (I procrastinate when it comes to messing with behind-the-scenes computer stuff. In any case, I've been up to 1 AM the past couple of nights working on "town matters" .. trying to fight "city hall." ) In addition, the shortcut keys for "Auto smart fix" do not work, i.e. <alt><ctrl><m>. ASF only works via the menu. (I often use ASF to see if it does something I might want to work on manually. Sometimes it is helpful.) Below is one of a few crash reports. Usually PSE 2021 just freezes and does not offer a crash report. It does work properly on occasion, but mostly does not. A random event. If I want to use the crop tool (say resize a several photos identically for Facebook), I have to close PSE 2021 and open up PSE 2018.

There continue to be assorted issues with PSE 2021 since the February update. I'm curious. Adobe released another update in March. Did it fix anything? Photoshop Elements 2021 update (version 2021.2)I have PSE 2021 (with both updates) installed on two computers (Windows 10 Pro). None of the problems being reported!

I installed the latest update. Pretty sure this is the latest. A few days ago, PSE 2021 crashed while using the crop tool and I submitted a crash report. This morning it is working fine.

I just wanted to report that my build number is in agreement with the screen shot you posted, and that the crop tool and ASF shortcut key work for me (windows 10). I'm sorry you are having such frustration.

Thanks Tom. Hummm ... maybe a Windows issue? I did a Windows update a few days ago. As noted, the crop tool has functioned today, but crashed a few days ago. BTW, when I invoke "Auto smart fix" using <alt><ctrl><m> the action does not appear in the history log. I quickly tried other <alt><ctrl> and <shift><ctrl> actions...all work....such as: <alt><ctrl><B> convert to B&W ... ok <alt><ctrl><t> auto control tone ... ok <shift><ctrl><L> auto levels ... ok <shift><ctrl><M> auto smart fix adjustments...that works but <alt><ctrl><m> does not work. I'll keep working on this. Thanks, Clive

Wow, that is very strange!
I as wondering, after alt-ctrl-m, if you then type ctrl-z, do you get the message Undo Auto Smart Fix?

Yes, for sure. <ctrl><Z> <ctrl><Y> undo and redo ... they both work. <ctrl><F> repeat last filter (such as unsharp mask..use a lot) <ctrl><shft><S> "save as" .. all good. <ctrl><C> <ctrl><V> copy and paste ... use constantly.

That really perplexing to me, I must say. I do hope you get a resolution soon.
On the other hand, I have never paid attention to the History window, so thank you for teaching me something new!

I have never paid attention to the History window I don't use it often, but it is handy on occasion. Sometimes I need to know if I have applied some process (such as unsharp mask) to a photo that I've been playing with. Oh and BTW, last night I was attempting to crop several marsh photos to the same size and PSE 2021 froze again. No crash report popped up.

Grrr! I can tell you that I have noticed that the crop tool has had performance problems with more than the most recent version. I think it has to do with the updating of the Crop Suggestions down in the tool options panel. I have noticed that as long as the Crop Tool is selected, PSE slows to a crawl for me. It is not much of a stretch to go from crawl to frozen. It may have to do with the amount of available memory; at least that is what my spidy sense tells me.

last night I was attempting to crop several marsh photos to the same size and PSE 2021 froze again. Clive, here are two shots in the dark. I'm not sure either one will help but they are worth a try. Your screen shot shows that Cropping Suggestions are enabled. Try disabling this option to see if things improve. Go to Edit>Preferences>General> turn off . . . Enable Crop Pre-Selection. Maybe PSE 2021 needs a helping hand. Try these suggestions to improve its performance. -- When Elements Goes into a Sluggish Mode.
