I first learned about the Cyanotype effect in Photoshop from the PSE & More Forum. photoshopelementsandmore.com/thread/6880/cyano-effectHere is an interesting and moving 6 minute video on Youtube showing how a 120 year old negatives were recently developed using the Cyanotype process. Now, I have a greater respect for this technique. In its day. it was an important way to preserve memories. Technology has changed, but our desire to preserve memories is still the same. I have no idea how the photographer managed to get the cat still enough to take the picture with the slow shutter speeds they used in those days. I struggle to get my cat to pose long enough with a modern dslr! As soon as I reach for my camera she turns the other way! A very heart warming video. TFS.
Several years ago, I took a class on alternative print techniques. We did cyanotypes, salt prints, and van dyke brown prints. It was a rewarding process to see the photos come into view during the developing process. I wonder how these techniques were discovered many years ago.

Don’t miss the follow-up video where he colorizes the photo. Holy cow, that guy is good. 120 years!! TFS Thanks Cats4jan! Somehow, I missed that one! Colorization of a 120 year old cat photo. www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=2eblNBqTD58 I am amazed at the clarity of the image on the glass plate negative. The camera must have had a good lens. Also the size of the glass plate looks like many times the size of a modern sensor which helps. And it survived for so many years! Kind regards Chris

I didn't get to this yesterday. Thanks for sharing, Chris and for your follow-up Janice. Both videos were so well done. I like the way he introduced the video with the discovery of the box and the little girl's treasures. Not only is he good at what he does but he produced two excellent videos to demonstrate. His filming technique, explanation, music and pace were perfect for the subject.
