Learned this long ago with CS5 and am now using it in Elements. If you create a Levels Adjustment Layer, and hold down Alt or Option while you click the Auto button the Options dialog appears. Try these settings and see what you think. So often I like this simple color correction over other options. Just hit the checkbox - Save as Defaults and you will have these settings every time you hit Auto. Check Find Dark and Light Check Snap Neutral Midtones Change Clip %s to .5

Thanks for this valuable tip! I also learnt about Alt-Auto back in PS CS5. However, for some reason, I keep forgetting it when using Elements. Great reminder!

Thank you very much for the tip! The good thing is that you can see the adjustment in real time when you click the different options before you apply.
